Epox 8K7A Bug?

For the 1st time since I have been using this board I started moving some files from my C drive on ide 1 to my D drive on ide 2.
When I moved a file that was 92mb it took about 5 mins to do this and my mouse would barely move.
Then I tried moving the same file from d to c and it worked fine.
I am overclocking at 155fsb so I tried again at 133mhz and no problem.
Then I tried at 145fsb same problem,then 140fsb same problem.
So I am like wdf?
I have a promise ata 100 card so I decided to install it and try the same setup using it.
133fsb no problem, 140fsb no problem, 155fsb no problem.
So I guess it must be something with the onboard ide.
Anyone else have this "problem"?
btw my hard drives are c=15gb ibm 75gxp d=40gb ibm 60gxp.

It sounds like it's a limitation of the VIA southbridge. The spec for the IDE controller is supposed to be 33MHz or 1/4 of the FSB but even at 155 you're only +5MHz. It would be interesting to see if the RAID version (8K7A+) is able to pass your test as well as the promise ata 100 card. Anyone?

Sounds like one of the drives or both were using PIO mode. This will drag your system down to a crawl and use up 100% of your CPU. If you are running Win2K, make sure you have installed the IDE busmaster drivers and that DMA mode is enabled. If it's Win9X, make sure that the DMA box is checked for both drives...

Nope both dives are using dma, boxes checked.
Even tried the via bustmaster drivers on via's site instead of the ones on the cd that came with the board no change.
Also verified that the via bustmaster driver was listed in use for the ide controller's.
Windows me.

Hmmm...sounds strange. I don't think it's a bug because I have done a few large transfers @ 170mhz FSB and I had no problems. I am using a 75GXP and a 60GXP as well. I am using Win2K however...I can't stand to use any Win9X OS anymore..

Hmm..maybe something with the driver and the os then.
Guess I will just use my promise card until they come out with newer drivers or I change operating systems.
