I DO NOT intend to overclock...and how do I set the jumpers?
The manual for jumper settings isn't really clear
I'm using epox 8K7a+ with thunderbird 1.13 266mhz...

so should I change the JCLK1
CPU Clock Select which is 1-2(default) to 2-3?

what other jumpers do I need to set?

Being that your processor is 266 you need to switch the jumper to 133. Just be positive that your cpu is infact a 266 bus.

Thanks

I too have the Epox 8K7A+, with the 1.4 GHz 266 FSB T-bird (same FSB as yours) and this is what I set mine to:

SW2: CPU Ratio Selection- I left it at AUTO (Switch 5 OFF, Switches 1-4 can be on or off- it doesn't matter)
JP2: CPU Core Adjust- +0.V (Default) (Jumper on pins 1-6)
JP3: DDR Adjust (2.5V)- +0.1 (Default) (Jumper on pins 2-7)
JCLK1: CPU Clock Select- CPU 133MHz/DDR 266MHz (Jumper on pins 2-3)
JP5: Power Loss Recovery- Disabled (Default) (Jumper on pins 1-2)
JP13: Keyboard Power On Function- Enabled (Jumper on pins 2-3)

Technically, the RAID Administrator really only provides you with the means to reconstuct your Mirror (RAID 1) array is things go bad. If a RAID 0 Array goes bad, then either it won't boot or you lost all your data. All you need is in the BIOS anyway. I don't use it myself.

If you have the 1.13 T-bird, your FSB is 266 MHz (133 DDR), and uses an 8.5x multiplier (133 x 8.5 = 1130.5). If you have the 1.1 T-bird, your FSB is 200 MHz (100 DDR), and uses the 11x multiplier (100 x 11 = 1100).

Other tips: Go to the following sites and download the updated drivers:

http://www.amd.com/products/cpg/bin/- amddrvpk_120.exe
http://www.viahardware.com/download/index.shtm#4in1- 4in1432v.zip
http://www.highpoint-tech.com/370drivers.htm- 370raid_v1.2.0612_win98.zip

Only the drivers necessary for your board will install, so AMD's IDE driver will not be installed when you run AMD's amddrvpk_120.exe program. (Install VIA's drivers for that).

If you aren't going to use the onboard sound, don't bother installing the sound drivers for the Via 686B chip.

If you want to use Epox's "official" AMD 761, Via 686B, and Highpoint 370 drivers (and the onboard sound drivers), go to http://www.epox.com/html/english/support/motherboard/drivers/download_ep-8k7a+.htm.

Also, don't forget to go to http://www.epox.com/html/english/support/motherboard/bios/8k7a.htm and download 8k7a1606.exe to update your BIOS.

Good Luck.

Very thorough Sparehead! I take it you're not a fan of the 8k7a1607 bios?

In any case, just to nitpick (as I always do), when you said "Only the drivers necessary for your board will install", even though you were referring to AMD's driver sets, I believe the 4in1's from VIA will still try to install their AGP miniport driver. I could be wrong though (am still in the process of assembling my new system; it hasn't hit the ground running yet).

The default RAM settings are fine- that's what I'm using now...

...but I'm also running OCZ CL2 PC2100 RAM...I mught just try some of those other settings.

In your case, as far as stability goes, don't fool with those numbers. I can safely say that with the RAM I'm using now, the default settings work fine.

Uh... SpideyCU, where is the 8k7a1607 BIOS you speak of?

if you have two sticks of ram i would leave it on auto

if i would change the timings

i am happy with my current bios and others have said that it has made their performace worse and added an ugly splash screen (this was at the amdmb.com epox message board)

The only thing I got to add is that when trying to install the AMD760 Miniport Driver you may have to manually copy a file named "sucatreg.exe" from your Windows disk
