EPOX 8K7A - how do you find max speed CPU useable

Hi All

I have a machine a couple of years old and want to upgrade rather than purchase a new one, I have a EPOX 8K7A motherboard and cannot find out what CPU's I can use with this board can anyone point me in the right direction? at present I have a 1.4 athalon and would need a fair bit more speed to make an upgrade worthwhile!

My old rig was a 8k7a+. I just moved it into a cheap case for my 4 year old daughter and unless you want to do some modding, the maximum multiplier is 11 and max fsb is 133. I am running my 1.33 Athlon at 11x133 = 1463mhz. Without a PCI lock, I wouldn't push the FSB past the board's rated max of 133. SO, I would consider maximum speed to be 11x133. My 2800+ Barton worked, but was a waste, wasn't much faster than the older 1.33 (gained 256kb of L2 cache). In my opinion, a processor upgrade from a 1.4 athlon on this board isn't going to do you any good. That's why I bought my LanParty NFII-B.

The max it can support is the Athlon XP 2400+. I have one that runs good for the most part, but sometimes you have to power cycle it a couple of times to get it to start. This is because the only BIOS that officially supports the 2400+ is a beta BIOS.

However, I just purchaed a new motherboard b/c there was stuff coming out of the capacitors on my 8K7A+. It was nice for the month or so it worked (on 2400....I had a 1600+ on it for 2yrs+).
