Epox 8K7A or 8K7A+ ?

I am thinking to build a system of Thunderbird supported with RAID, since I will use it to run my database and web servers. My question is: do I really need a RAID-supported mother board? I heard Linux can support Software Raid and it works fine w/o hardware support. So which one is better for me, Epox 8K7A or 8K7A+? Can you give me some sugestions?

8k7a dont get one with crappy highpoint controller buy a promise card

No, Highpoit actually out performs Promise in RAID 0, just look at Anand's RAID review. The Promise card used promise and Iwill's used Highpoint. And yes, get 8K7A+, RAID is good.

I've had two 40GB drives running in RAID for about a month and a half now, no problems and sweet speed (RAID-0, of course I'm smart enough to backup regularly). For whatever you'd use it for (RAID-0,1,0+1,etc.) it should serve you nicely. $20+ dollars (the price increase on NewEgg currently I believe) is less than buying a separate controller card.

I bought the raid version just because the non was out of stock at newegg at the time, for 20 bucks, its no big deal, plus it gives me raid if I ever want it. right now the controller is disabled. the only grief I have with the controller is that the drivers are a bit crappy, at least the newer ones are, however highpoint is aware of this problem, and they will at least fix it in the future. right now, the best drivers are the 1.0.3b version.
