I built up an Epox 8K7A+ last year. This board has raid which I used for my 2 20GB, 7200 rpm IDE hard drives in a non-raid setup. My IDE channels are used by a CD burner, DVD player, and an old Zip drive for my large data files (I'm writing a book). I use an Athlon Classic T-Bird 1.33 GHz on a 266 fsb, powered by a 300w AGI power supply. I use on board sound, GForce2 GTS 32 MB AGP video card, and W98SE operating system. I had no problems at all. Follow directions. Do not try to overclock until you have everything running to your satisfaction. Operating system and software should be checked for the latest updates once installed, download them before doing any overclocking. Overclocking can be fun if you like to brag about it, It really has little real world benifits since you must use benchmarking programs to see any difference as most humans can not tell the difference by just using there sences of sight and sound. I can recommend this board as I still have not had any problems with it. I might try a new Athlon XP 2200+ just to say I have one.

The 8K7A has a much slower chipset, the Amd 761 northbridge. It has a 686B Via Southbridge.Although it was the best overclocker of its time, its too slow compared to the 266A,333,and 400 Via chipsets.I know this because I own one,my 12 year old daughter uses it.It has a 1400 T-bird and Crucial 2100 DDR oc'd to 1600.Choppy

You're comparing different generations/chipsets of motherboards. I have a few epox motherboards, including two 8k7a's and love them, very stable & good quality and running almost 2 years now.

The MSI I put my daughter's boyfriend onto and he likes it, a few more features and performance a bit better.

didn't think you could find a new 8k7a anymore though but cheaper used than the msi

No point in buying the epox if you're buying new, go with the MSI.
