When I first installed this board, it did see the Maxtor as a 30GB ATA100.Then I reformatted the drive because it came out of an ECS board with an SIS 735 chipset and it was just cluttered and I wanted to start clean. I have 2 of these drives installed and it still sees the second drive as a 30GB ATA100 and I only use this drive as my backup/dumping ground.
1) When I formatted my Maxtor 30GB ATA100 hard drive, this board sees it as a 2GB (2112MB) hard drive ATA66 in the bios. I have gone to Epox and downloaded and installed the newest bios (from Epox), which made no difference. Neither drive is able to have the S.M.A.R.T. enabled. Their is no option in the bios. Does this board support this technology? It should. There is nothing in the manual about it, there is some info at Epox web site but I don't think it was board specific just general info. Windows sees the drives as 30GB. If I format this drive on another computer this computer sees it as it should.
2) The other problem is with the memory slots. I have three sticks of 256MB PC2100 DDR when I had all 3 in, one time it stated only 256MB on boot no matter what, I've tried many configurations and I get memory boot C1 on the led display on the board and the beep every 3 seconds or so. All the memory works fine in another machine and its just standard non parity, non ecc stuff. The kind this board requires. (Crucial) Yes, it crunches when installed, One other note, one time it listed memory as 511 megs on 2 sticks, but that was in Windows
3) Last but not least my CD-RW (Sony CRX160E) and DVD (Pioneer 10x) will not read some backup copies of software (AutoCAD 2000, Microsoft Office 2000) and they read fine in other machines. I had to install them from my network. I thought this could be a software issue but it doesn't matter which operating system I use, Win 98, Win me, I haven't tried win 2000 yet but the optical drives work good in another computer.
I'm going to RMA this board but I'd like to know what everyone thinks or have had problems out there resembling these.
This board when working runs benchmarks where they should be and is stable.
