Epox 8KHA+ vs Epox 8KHA

Are there are pros or cons over one or the other. I know the Epox 8KHA+ has a newer chipset, is it actually better and if so why?

Hi

The EPOX 8kha+ has a newer chipset, which is better. Why - Via got some expirience with the kt266 chipset and used them to improve the kt266a chipset. They also fixed a lot of bugs from the kt266 chipset in the kt266a chipset.

This is the same thing we saw with the kt133 and kt133a chipsets.

Bugs aren't good, what type of bugs are in the 8Kt266 chipset?

Are there any good stable AMD boards out at the moment?

I have a 1600 xp with the ECS K7S5A and I'm not to impressed with that setup atm.

There are quite a few reviews out there including one here at anandtech that puts the EPOX 8KHA+ in a good to very good light.

I personally have one and it rocks! There are quite a lot of posts and threads here and at www.ocworkbench.com and at www.amdmb.com.

Most of what I would have to say is already stated in all of these threads.

Myself and a friend of mine jokingly stated a while back, that we should never buy a mobo with a VIA chipset unless you see an "A" at the end of it...little did we know how true this might turn out as it seems that VIA likes to fix their bugs with their chipsets and release an "A" version afterwards...especially now with the KT266A and the KT333 and KT333A coming out shortly

Thanks for the replies thus far. I have read some reviews, but they don't always take into account real life usage.

So from what was stated above any board with a KT266 chipset should be avoided at all costs, and one should go with a KT266a chipset.

So is the Epox 8KHA+ the board to get or should one look at others such as the MSI KT266 Pro2-RU.

It depends on if you want extras or not the 8kha+ comes with sound and nothing else but it's great for overclocking. The only other board that I have seen that had better reviews the soyo dragon + has onboard LAN and RAID. They are the 2 best performing kt266a boards which seems to be the best chipset. I believe the dragon is a little faster but also costs more.

Another vote for the Epox 8KHA+ it`s very stable board,btw there seems little point in buying the old Epox 8KHA (KT266) when you can have the newer improved version which is faster and very stable,I use mine for lots of gaming and general use and can tell you it has given me zero problems even with setup .

If you are looking for a non-RAID board based on KT266A chipset then the Epox 8KHA+ should be at the top of the shopping list IMHO.
