for optical, you would take one wire, and hook it up to the VCC pin on the mobo, and the other end to the end of the optical jack, and another cable hook up the S/PDIF out to the end of the optical jack...
though i'd just get the add on card anyways..
don't get the abit, the voltages are BAD..
