I just put together a new system, an d it has major problems. When I hit the power button, all of the fans come on, the lcd on the mother board first reads c1, and then switches to c3, and then repeatedly beeps. On my monitor it just says "no signal" I have no idea what the problem could be. Here are my specs, if that will help

athlon 2100 +
epox 8rda+
ge force 4200
256mb crucial pc2700 ddr ram

thanks

I am FAR from the right person to help troubleshoot a system, but...
Wouldn't "no signal" on your monitor mean the monitor isn't getting anything coming to it from the video card?

I have seen several threads about people not pushing their AGP cards through to the second set of contact.
Might try that.

I thought of that, but it was definitely in all the way. The monitor does flash when I start and shutdown the system, so I think it is receiving something. Also, there still is the issue of the lcd reading c1 and then c3, and of the repeated beeping.
Thanks anyway though

I believe that c1 is memory damaged, and c3 is memory inserted incorrectly. I know that it is inserted correctly though, and I tried it in all three slots. I also tried to start up without memory, and I got the c1 error. Just out of curiosity, when I try to start without memory, shouldnt I at least see something happen on the monitor?
Thanks

Im getting the same problems.., turning on the computer and after the initial beep the entire computer just shuts down and u hear the repeated beeping of the computer speaker. Thought it was the video card but I tried 3 cards but to no avail, the memory was on tight,,, any one have a clue as to what to do?

Sounds like your heatsink might be on backwards, or not getting good thermal contact with the CPU core for some other reason. Helpful guide here showing what to avoid, particularly look at Figures 7, 13 and 14 where they show the step in the bottom of the heatsink, and what to watch for. Welcome to the Forums, hope your new rig is feeling better soon

Edit: that guide is in PDF format, you can download Acrobat Reader to open it with if you need: www.adobe.com

I haven't installed the heatsink yet... still waiting for it to come in through newegg. It can't be due to overheating though can it? It hasn't even booted up to the bios. Also... how would you be able to tell if anything has shorted? I'm pretty sure I was grounded but if anything I'm going to RMA... I only have 5 days left for the CPU.

So you're saying you turned the system on without the heatsink in place? It will overheat in less than a second under those circumstances. Wait for your heatsink so you don't fry your CPU.

heh, you better hope that the mobo's onboard thermal protection saved the cpu from a fiery death.

like mechBgon says, wait until you get your HSF before you try anything again. Sounds like you already installed the mobo so you best take the mobo out and put it flat on a desk when you install the HSF.

I am having a pretty similar problem to this, I think I was pushing my FSB a little high, and one reboot it just didn't come back, so I thought ok cool I will clear the CMOS and it will be good. Bad answer, it seems that clearing the CMOS does not actually reset the FSB and now I have exactly the same problem, can't boot, and I am all out of idea's, come Monday I guess it will be RMA time unless I can fix it over the weekend.

It was nice to see that a new BIOS was released that appears to fix this issue, shame I didn't see it till just now..

Egad, you booted up without installing the heatsink? Sheesh... I hope you didn't fry it, that's what it sounds like, but who knows... that's a really odd problem, I'd second the idea that there lies the problem.

I hope you don't have 'em either...seeing as 99% of them are user errors.

Be gentle with the nOOb's. I still remember being put down for not knowing something about my Celeron 400 when I was the nOOb, and I still remember who did it too.
