EPoX EP-8KHA+ problems

(things to note before reading. I have latest BIOS Chip N+ as well as the 02 flash)

OK, I built myself a new system consisting of an Athlon XP 1600, an EpOX EP-8KHA+, and 768 PC 2100 RAM. Now, I went to crucial to get it, plugged my motherboard into it and got out

CT3272Z265 - 256 MB PC 2100 Registered ECC RAM

Now I get it up and running (advanced server), and start installing things and get all kinds of spontaneous reboots, and huge blue screen memory dumps. (memory dumps I have NEVER seen running 2000 server)...I think it's a fubared install and reformat and try again. I do this 5 times to no avail. So I put on Win2k Pro to see how far I get and I get alot further until I start running the virus scanner, then all kinds of hell breaks loose. Memory page faults, etc.

I was reading up on everyone's trouble on these forums about the KHA+ boards, but I'm not overclocking or anything. So I look at the tech sites and at Epox, I find it saying "ECC memory is NOT to be used on this board"...I go back to crucial and sure enough, it's no longer listed as a compatible chip.

My question is, COULD the ECC memory be the root of all my evil? And now of course, I'm without a puter until I get it replaced...damnit. Thanks all!

Also, something of note, using a Hardware Monitor for the motherboard, I see the following voltages...

12V - 12.59
5V - 5.03
Core - 1.82
I/O - 1.54

It's the I/O voltage that concerns me...it seems low. Also, the CPU temp hovers around 50 C. Is that about right? Seemed kinda high to me but who knows, it's a fast chip. And there's a good CPU fan and good ventilation in the case (GlobalWin WBK38 with 4 80mm case fans). Any help you could shoot me I would appreciate it!

Sorry to hear about... This probably won't help... I just put my machine together w/Epox 8k7a+ and 512 PC2100 ECC (kingston) and have had no problems at all..

Almost sounds to me like it is only recognizing one stick of RAM... Have you tried different combos of 1, 2, or 3 sticks?? I wonder if the problem might go away with only one stick in it??

You say you bought right from Crucial? I would contact them and see about them replacing the sticks w/non-ECC?

That i/o voltage is your CPU's so it's fine and have you tried setting your bios to the fail-safe defaults? Also, did you install any software while your virus software was enabled? this will cause many programs to install incorrectly and will cause alot of trouble. Well, I'm gonna let Crucial replace my RAM first and see if the problems go away. If they don't then I'll work on Epox.
