Got my refurb board today, and it is ver 2.0. I received all the same stuff that zorby did but it looks like the BIOS has been replaced. The BIOS has no imprints except someone had written "N+" on it with a felt-tipped pen. Zorby, does your board have the original Award BIOS?

If all of these board were indeed refurbs only to get new BIOSs and they all come in brand new packaging and work great then truly this is a hot deal! This is my board of choice and recommendation for customer's DDR systems, and I could grab a bunch and sell these if they are like new!

Anyone actually using their refurb yet? Any problems?

Looks to me like these are just BIOS replace refurbs, which pretty much guarantees that little to nothing will be wrong with them. I haven't booted any of them up, but I just recieved 10 of them all rev 2.0 with markings on the BIOS chip. All of the packaging is new, along with cables, manual, cd, and USB header. I have yet to test them, but I have full faith in Newegg with this deal. Looks like they bought up a couple thousand actual refurbs from Epox and are selling them at a great price!

If you are upgrading your entire system (ie do not already have the chip to go in this board) head over to Fry's. They are offering a combo deal with this board and an Athlon XP 1800+ for $199. Based on the best prices on pricewatch I saw for the chip, this means an effective price of just $62 for the motherboard, brand new, without worrying about whose dog chewed what. This deal is good at least in Portland and the Bay area. Don't know about other areas.

Why would I buy this board of the ECS K7S5A that newegg sells new retail box for $62 shipped?

<< Why would I buy this board of the ECS K7S5A that newegg sells new retail box for $62 shipped? >>

1. Epox gets great reviews

2. if you took a moment to read earlier posts people are getting a full retail box version with all the trimmings(manual, cables etc). A while back epox had a problem with a bad bios chip. They sent vendors new bios chips to replace the defective old ones. these boards were probably never sold, they just sat in inventory until someone got around to swapping the bios chips.(hence refurb, not new)

3. ECS has so so reviews...its a budget board. if your on a budget buy it...it seems people buying this board are getting a steal... grab em while you can
