Ok, I have the EP-8RDA+ Mobo with Creative Labs FPS 2000 speakers (4.1 system). In my older computer I just connected the speakers via the yellow cord to the yellow jack on my SB Live! X-Gamer card. Well I tried to connect the yellow cord to the sound out on my new MOBO, but I don't get any sound to come out of any of the speakers.

I am running Windows XP SP1.

Anyone know what to do? I tried looking in the "official EP-8RDA(+)" thread but all I found was other people asking the same question.

Thanks,
riddelrp

Also, I tried sticking headphones into the back to make sure the sound works at all and it does. The headphones sound great connected to the onboard sound... now I just want my 4.1 system to work :frown:

bump before bed...

I hope someone has an answer for me.

PS: The "yellow" connection was the "Digital DIN" on the FPS2000 system.

I tried the speaker setup wizard, but that didn't work.

The yellow connection is called "Digital DIN" so I guess they would be digital?

Thanks for the reply,

if you're using the digital din (spdif) cable, then you would have to buy the optional digital add on card. it doesn't come with the 8rda+. otherwise, you could use the analog front and rear connections directly to the motherboard.

thank you for your help.

Is there a quality drop using the analog signal?

Where can I buy the add-on card?

Thank you,

You can get the add-on here, however, that's for an optical SPDIF output. I have the FPS2000 speakers as well, and I resorted to using the analog output since I could find no straightforward way of connection the digital line. Keep in mind that these speakers are not using a universal SPDIF connection, it's proprietary.

Thank you!

I bought 2 cables from Radio Shack and everything sounds great.

Thanks again,

Hey riddelrp, can you tell/show us which cables you bought at Radio Shack? Did you end up using the analog front/rear connections or did you find a digital adapter so you could use the SPDIF? I've got the same speaker system and considering upgrading to an 8rda+ and would love to be able to use these speakers without putting the Creative SB Live card on the new board.

Check out a pic on my site of the package. You need 2 of them and they cost $4.99 each. Plug one into each of the Front and Rear jacks on the sub. Then plug the front cable into Audio OUT on the MOBO. Place the rear cable in the Audio IN. System sounds great. I had a SB Live! X-Gamer and it sounds a little better then before.

As for the SPDIF connection... based on previous posts I figure the SPDIF on the FPS 2000 system is a little different then the standard SPDIF. Based on this it may not work with the add on card. Add in the fact that the add on card costs money and I think I'll stick with the analog.

The analog wires should have came with the speaker system. But my box is at home in Michigan (I'm in school in Dayton, OH) and I didn't want to wait to get sound.

I've only been using this new system for a few days and not to hard (I just had finals this week and got the parts last Wednesday). So far I'm in love.

Good luck with the system. If you have any more questions about the sound or MOBO feel from to private message me. I check this every day or 2.

HTH,
riddelrp
