Epoxy on Mobo

I cracked tab on my socket, going to use epoxy and glue my "hold down device" for my waterblock right on the motherboard. Anyone know if epoxy is conductive and will short anything out?

I dont think that epoxy glue is electrically conductive, but I cant say that for certain. Why not try to see if you can use a multimeter to get a resistance reading across some previously used epoxy.

I get like 10,000 ohms from glass of water, nothing from epoxy.
is 10,000 about right for water?

edit: And like 100,000 ohms if i squeez the probes in my fingers, 1 in each hand.

Resistance of water varies according to contaminants in it (normally water (pure) is not a conductor).

If you get absolutely nothing then I think you can assume it is non-conductive. The only problems I could see you having with this is getting the damn stuff off, which I doubt you will be able to do without damaging the board. Typical of epoxy, once its on, it will be staying there.

Note: Body resistance varies, although wouldn't suggest you try to hard to find out as previous Darwin award winners have gone before you. Apparently blood is conductive, and if the probes enter your bloodstream, the shock can stop the heart, 'apparently'.

I seriously doubt a multimeter could kill you unless someone jammed the probe in thier eye socket till they hit the good stuff
Most meter's are powered by a 9volt battery , enough to set off a sensitive car airbag but I doubt it would get enough to kill you . I believe it take 1 amp to kill a person and I doubt a 9volt would pump a amp since the voltage is the electrical pressure that pushes the current (amps) . Now if you wanna try to kill yourself go hang onto a high voltage distributorless ignition system ... 80,000 volts will make your package stand up
Id say the epoxy should be ok as long as it is plastic . Im thinking Bondo ( plastic autobody filler ) might help but it's not as strong as epoxy but both are the same thing . If I remember none of the epoxy's list contents as it's some trademark secret ( or they put dead cats in it and don't want everyone to know ) .
I guess if the mobo is useless without epoxy'n it what the heck .

Hrm your right it doesn't list whats in it, only says:
DANGER! Contains N-Aminoethylpiperazine, epoxy resin and nonyl phenol

Mabe thats the only things in it, but what makes up epoxy resin, or does it grow on tree's now?

I dont plan on taking it off.. watercool only on this board.

its already on, i put a few layers. waiting a few hours between. It seems very strong but im going to wait about 24 hours before clamping anything down on it. It says full strength in 8 hours, but this insta-cure stuff says holds in 10sec full strength in 2 hours and it deosn't get full strength for like 48 hours if you put it on thick.

If it is conductive, it will say conductive epoxy! Those are more expensive than normal epoxy. You can just put some epoxy on paper and test it..

9v DC current won't kill you. It's pretty hard to be killed by DC, even at 1000V, unless there's so much current it burns you to death.

AC on the other hand is bad, very bad.

Hehe, yeah, it is hard to kill yourself with a multi-meter. The story goes that this guy was testing to see the resistance through his body from one hand to the other. Eventually he pressed so hard on the probes, that they both entered the blood stream and the electrical shock from one hand to the other stopped his heart.

Believe it if you want. I still think its a little imaginative, but apparently it is a true story.
