Epson 1650 Scanner

Anyone have this scanner and did you get the panel buttons to work right using XP?

Anybody? If I can't get this to work I guess I will return it and get a HP Scanner

Here is a link to a FAQ page. There is a Patch available for the Scan utility from the Download page here. You might also check the driver/twain versions to see if you have the most current ones. Epson hasn't really updated their site to reflect XP yet, so some of the tips may or may not work.

Thanks eplebnista. I have already tried that. Everything works except the copy program. It's just one of those things thats going to drive me nuts until I figure it out or return it and get an HP or go back to Windows 98 heaven forbid.

I've tried both Epson and HP scanners (HP4470c) which says it's XP-ready. Apparently, HP is not as XP-ready as Epson is since many people (including me) using XP are having problems with the HP scanner (I just checked cnet & read similar comments from several users). I'm going to try Canon next (1240u) & see which is the best. As far as the scanning quality is concerned, I think Epson kicks HP's butt (I don't know about Canon yet).

I finally got a reply back from Epson. They told me to get the copy program to work with my HP 970 printer I have to install an Espson printer driver. Set it to the default and then run the copy program. While in the copy program then I can choose my HP printer and it will work. After I am done then I have to set my default printer back to my HP. This sucks. Oh well one thing I can say about the Epson 1650 scanner is that it does do some nice scans. I hate it when a new operating system comes out and it takes forever for companies to releash drivers that works. I mean it isn't like they didn't know it was coming out 6 months or more before it hits the market. I am not just blasting Epson. I think almost all of them are kind of that way.

You're dead right, every HW maker in the world had previous knowledge of the driver requirements made by Microsoft in order to have the 'Build for XP' logo on every box...

Like with every single Microsoft Product, one must wait for the Service Pack 1 (or 1a, 2, 3 whatever) until we can be pretty shure that we can have an fully working environment in Windows. I've had the same prob. with an optical mouse for my sisters notebook (it still doesn't work under Windows XP Home Edition), I'm still waiting for a new version of the driver so it can be put to work under XP.

As for the HW companies, they sometimes supply fully working (laboratory rats) drivers that simply crash in the Real World...

Your problem seems like one I had a few years ago with Netscape Navigator under Windows NT after I've installed a Service Pack from Microsoft... It's dumb but I don't think u should mix a EPSON scanner with an HP printer as they don't like each other very much.
