Great find, just ordered one. I've kinda been waiting around for a hot deal like this since my canon craps out in win2k. Thought i'd post to bump this up.
Has anyone confirmed that this rebate will be honored by Epson? As the original poster said, I cann't find it anywhere on Epson's site. Are we sure it's not a rebate being offered by outpost or something?
Bought one myself. About the price of a set of cartridges with discount, Cannon Rebate, and Pointclick Rebate. Comes to like $ 36.57. I saw that you can get 3' or 6' USB cable for 3.95 from Onvia. No shipping.
Looks like the black ink cartraiges are pretty cheap on this thing. 14 or so bucks. Much better than the high priced HP cartraiges.
Anyways, I broke down and ordered one. I didn't need it (E-Stamp printer serves me fine) but, like most things around here, I figured it was to cheap to pass up. I swear, I spent less money overall before I knew about the various Internet hot deal sites.
The ink is cheaper for the most part because you aren't buying a fresh print head with every cartridge. The down side is print heads that have to last years instead of months. All that being said, I have an Epson 740 which still prints great after 1 1/2 years. Where it really shines is photo quality on coated paper.
As for the rebate. I am not convinced this rebate is totally legit. I would like to see it confirmed by posting a link to another site.
to prove how hot of a deal this is i had to post this!
I opened todays fry's ad and they have the 860 for 99.99 with the 50.00 rebate and i thought to myself that seemed too cheap for fry's. So i read the fine print and it said "Refurbished"
So basically in the end they are chargin and extra 9 + tax = 16 dollars for the refurbed version!
I am sooooo glad i picked one of these suckers up, As a long time epson lover this will replace my slow ars POS Hp (got the Hp for free from work, only reason i had it)!
WOHOO-Ordered yeasterday morning, arrived this morning. New in box, comes with bunch of free software. Polaroid Photo Pax Pro, Arcsoft Photoprinter SE, efax, Film Factory, and Sofeware Factory pick any two software titles of your choice. MUCHO HAPPY.
Thank you guys. I just got mine today, and I installed it with serial cable and it still rocks!! I been using HP DJ 722c so far and its a really good printer, but this Epson is truly amazing at graphic prints and its very fast. Now, all I have to do is get it to print on my Linux system.
Does anyone know if this printer works on Linux at all?
Well I just got my 860 printer from Onvia and it's DEFECTIVE. It won't recognize the color ink cartridge. I wonder if the Epson quality is going down with the price drop on their printers. I have a 760 that the 860 model replaces. I got it from Value America for $100 ($130 minus a $30 rebate). The regular price at the time was $230. Now this 860 printer is about half the price. Maybe it's not made as well. I've got another one coming from Onvia so hopefully that one will work.
I've noticed a lot of places selling refurbished 860 printers. Sure seems like a lot of refurbs out there for such a new model printer. There must be a lot of defective 860's out there.
