Best buys has these suckers for 119.99 at my local store...on their ad, it says 129.99 though. I went inside, and behold...119.99 - 30 MIR = 89.99. Go to staples, and price match the sucker, and then get the 25 off 100 coupon and you're set to go!

payce,

Can you use the $25 off $100 if the pricematch gets you below $100? I got the 880 last week at OD using a different method. They had the printer on sale for $129.99 minus $10 IR and the $30MIR = $89.99. The OD was out of the rebate forms so they gave me the $30 as an IR. I then went to to OM and got the rebate form from them and sent that in for the $30 MIR. this brings the total to $59.99. Don't know if you can repeat it 'cause i got lucky with OD not having the rebate form...

If the pre-tax, pre-shipping price falls below $100 then you cannot apply a coupon for $25 off 100. What you can do is add some paper clips to your order to carry you over the century mark.

Sounds good. Anyone own this printer?

grimas,

Have you ever heard of the word "CHEATING"? I am thankful that most people have higher moral values than you.

If you read carefully, price is $119 before MIR. Pricematch to Staples, $119. Use $25 off $100 coupon, down to $95. Get $30 rebate, and so it's $65?
Where does $59.99 come from?

So what kind of performance does this printer get. I'm waiting for another deal on an HP900 series, but if this printer is better....

PM only gets you down to $119.99, why all the concern about using the $25 off of $100 coupon and paperclips? The coupon should work fine on $119.99. Am I missing something?

This is a good printer, nice and quiet. Not at all like the noisy 777.

Wait for the HP. I have an Epson 860 that I got for $10. It isn't worth the ten bucks that I paid for it. It makes good prints..... once it stops recycling the inkjets everytime you push the "On" button. I can watch the color ink drain from the cartridge on the nifty Epson printing app that shows how much ink is left in the B&W & Color cartridges. Bad part is that I rarely use Color printing. When the ink drains from the the color cart you can't print even B&W until you buy a new color cart. Very expensive $10 printer.... Epson is one smart company.

Now my old HP is still going on a 2yr. old cart. I will never buy Epson again. Read some of the rants about Epson inkjet printers clogging on Usenet. I have never had a problem with my HP.

Merkat, I beg to differ. I have both the Epson 860 and the 880 and both are excellent, workhorse printers.

I use them for business and do a great deal of mostly B&W printing (50-100 pg's/day). The text is always very crisp and clear.

Best part is that these Epson printers work fine using cheap, generic cartridges. I typically pay abot $2.79 for the black cartridges and $5.00 for the color, so who cares about the ink used during start up.

IMO, this is the best printer on the market for the price and you can keep your HP with the $20+ cartridges.

Where do you get those cheap cartridges? The epson brand prices are insanely high. And when I saw 50 to 100 pages / day, I thought "dude, you need a laser printer". But if you are paying that much for ink, you're set.

The last batch of cartridges I brought for the Epson 880 were from
www.extracartridges.com. They always have these dutch auctions on eb*y. Last price paid was $3.65 black and $5.95 color.

The Epson 860 generics are cheaper, $2.79 & $4.79 from www.inkmania.com
again through eb*y dutch auction.

I got in on this deal, easy PM. My local Best Buy had the 880 on sale for $119.97 as well.
Applied coupon and shipped price is $94.97+tax. After $30 MIR, final price will be $64.97 (plus whatever tax was on $94.97).

I really like my Epson 600 printer except it's NOISY. I use cheap refills on it, and it works perfectly. I've wanted an 880 printer because they're so quiet. Even quieter than the HP 932c I think (since the HP's loading mechanism makes popping noises). Hopefully the 880 will take my refills too. I know it doesn't have the microchip in the inktanks like the 777 does.

It may be "cheating" but not illegal. I used my original receipt (unlike many of the reciepts posted here which people use to get PM'es or discounts) to mail in for the $30 MIR. I guess I also "cheated" when I went to my Nissan dealer and had them sign the test drive voucher for a radio when I never actually drove the Xterra...

You're right, I can't add - I got it for 69.99 instead of 59.99. BTW - PC Magazine rated the Epson 980 as a "Editor's Choice" in Nov. 2000 - the 880 was slightly behind the 980 because it printed slightly slower than the 980 (but had slightly better graphic quality)

I beg to differ with anyone dogging Epson printers. Yes, compared to my other printers (HP and Lexmark) it is noisy (print heads are on printer not cartridge like other two)...yes it uses ink pretty fast in 2880dpi...but the quality of the pictures my new Epson printer pumps out is un-friggin-believable!! I once bashed Epsons but I bought one and have seen the light. Cartridges are dirt cheap...WAY cheaper than the other two printers. I use that popular online auction to pick up my carts.

<< Merkat: do you have your printer connected to a power strip?

Why power strips & Epsons are a Bad Thing.

Epson printers rock!!

Actually, I never turn it off. In an attempt to stop all of those wasteful clean & charge cycles I began to leave it on. I would shut down my comp. & leave the Epson running. When I started up my comp. the Epson would begin a short clean & charge cycle... it seemed to be shorter than if I shut off the Epson.

Epson's print nice & they're fast. It's those darn expensive ink carts that make Epson's a real pain in the arse. Maybe I'll try some of the cheap 3rd party carts.

$4 shipping any size order. $3-$10 Epson cartridges.

I have been planning on buying from these folks for my new cartridges but I still have a box of cartidges for my 740 and 850 from ValueAmerica half price valuebuck deals. I just bought the Epson 1200 on the $150 deal and plan on getting some carts from these folks.

I have had flawless service from aftermarket ink jet carts in color and black for my 740 and 850. I have used generic carts from ComputerGeeks.com called GraphicUtilites, and NCR carts that I bought from ValueAmerica. I have found the color indiscernable to OEM Epson cartridges, but I have no info on their color fastness.

Someone has posted on Anand or FatWallet that these folks have a good product, if anyone has personal experience with them please post.

Cheaper chinese carts are available for Epson chipped cartridge printers,
Epson Stylus Photo 870, etc. aftermarket carts for $18 and $19
Do not count on archival or water resistant prints though. I have seen no review and have no experience with these inks, but I would strongly suggest only using aftermartket carts for casual color printing. The new Epson inks have exceptional print quality and print longevity and you will not likely get comparable service from aftermarket products.

If you want some very good, and professional user information on ink jet use, this is the best site that I have found. The Luminous Landscape

The 777, 780, and all previous generation Epsons were noisy (my 600 is VERY noisy), but I played with an 880 several times and they are QUIET! I ordered the 880 because it's so quiet, I'm looking forward to the quiet printer.

Yeah there is something called moral values... Ethics...etc. I am sure Cheating and then be absolutely shameless to boast about it and proudly announcing to the world how you cheated others too on different occasion say highly about your values.

Merkat: Since generic inks have hit the market, I've used them on all my printers except for the 3000 because I need the highest quality on that printer. No problems whatsoever.

I highly recommend stocking up on some cheap generic ink

Just got my Costco member savings booklet/mailer today and it has the Epson 880 in it for $69.99 as well. The only catches are:

1. Warehouse price 119.99
- 20.00 off at register (with coupon)
- 30.00 mail in rebate

Total 69.99

2. Sale price in effect August 20th thru the 28th

I did this last year with the Epson 860, and as I recall, Costco had some kind of arrangement with Epson so that they applied the 30.00 discount at the register, too. It was great, no muss, no fuss.

So if you're not in a hurry or hate to deal with price matching and mail in rebates, just go get it at Costco in August.
