Hope you right, Athena.

I was too hesitate to get the printer weeks ago when it was available for $69. Now I gotta find a good photo printer for my new Canon G1

Thank you for the explanations on CBO and OfficeMax.com backorders. Fingers crossed .

edit: That USB printer cable looks like the one that came with my SDSL "modem". I used ethernet so maybe I can just use that one... Can't tell for sure though .

edit2: definately is the same cable, USB A<->B cable. Wahoo! Thank you Telocity.

<< Regarding the BackOrder status of these orders: That's common. Office Max seems to be getting periodic shipments from Epson as the the supplies dry up and they are shipped from a central site. You can expect a 7-10 day delay before it ships then allow another week after that for it to appear at your door. >>

This is a well-known discontinued model replaced by Epson 890 and OfficeMax will not get any new shippment from Epson. We really have to cross our fingers and wish the delivery centers near us will have one in stock.

Although the 875DC is no longer being manufactured, Epson is still shipping limited numbers to retailers as the stock is liquidated. They are shipping both new and refurbished units that have been returned by distributors. Office Max has apparently chosen to be an outlet for this model and is accepting shipments when Epson has them.

I don't agree. If OM chose to be an outlet for this discontinued printer, how come you cannot find it on OM website unless you order by the item#? It's been almost a month since their last sale. I personally don't think OM's normal restocking cycle will be more than one month. And I beleive most of OM in nationwide do not have this in stock anymore.

The reason they are not available from the stores is because it is a limited availability item, OM is not distributing them to the stores. So far, I haven't had any problem getting them for my clients -- we just wait. In one case, the customer got an email asking if he wanted to cancel the backorder but he answered no and it was filled 5 days later.

The same thing happened with Staples and the Epson 900 a few months ago. The printer was not listed when you did a search and would appear and disappear from the site (never available in the stores). When they had stock, it was a terrific deal but the supply was finally exhausted and the number removed from the Staples database.

As stated by need4spd,
Oh one more thing...OM has had a problem with the 875 missing the software and other parts. The one I got last month was missing the paper feeder!
I got the last 875DC from my local OM, open box special ($50). It also was missing the paper feeder as well as the CD and media card adapter. Does anybody know if I can just contact Epson and have them send me these items or do I need to pursue this through my local OM? Thanks.

Interesting story. Last week I ordered an 875DC and a box of paper clips to get over $100 so I could use my $25 off coupon. My 875DC is still marked CBO but when I got home from work yesterday there was a big box at my front door, plenty big enough to hold the printer box. I thought "Wonderful!" but when I picked it up the box was awfully light. Sure enough it had my rubber bands! My printer is still CBO.

The OM website shows-

Epson Stylus 875DC Photo Inkjet Printer
1440 x 720 dpi Photo Reproduction, Quality skin tones

So the 880 is higher res at 2880 x 720 ?? But with 4 colors.

I doreded and got mine in 3 working days. I am in their Ohio warehouse distribution area. All my OM orders come from there.

This printer is really good. Print out quality, both the resolution and color, is much much better than my old Canon BJC6XX (720x720 dpi).
Howver, the ink usage is very terrible, much worse then Epson's cliam.
The build-in CF memory card reader still need a computer. It is not a standlone photo printer as more expensive modles. But for $82 and a $20 GC rebate, it's a very good deal.

I think they might ship with a sample size cartridge. I've read that you can get 80-90 4x 6 prints from a color cartridge.

Amazon has the color cartridges for $15= $20 shipped. Ice cold unless you have some gift certificates / codes.

MadCityGuy, Om shipped my 1 pack of photopaper is a huge box, too. I would bet it was the size of at least 4 shoe boxes, if not bigger. Crazy....

I have printed out a few pics on the printer, and it looks really great. As far as ink consumption with the supplied ink cartridge, I have printed:

1 8x10
12 4x6's (some on the paper roll which I really like)

and I am down to about 60% of the color ink left. I just ordered another color ink cart. cause I have a feeling I'll be running out soon.

90 4x6 ~ 22 8x10 that is not possible, unless most of your pictures are white snow and cloud
For cartridge saving design, Canon does better job. Most people tend to use up one particular color faster, Canon uses individual cartridge for each color in certain modles. Epson's ink indicater seems not really measuring the ink, instead, it counts how many printing have done. From my experience with BJC6XXX (individual ink cartridge), I always use one color twice as much as others. But the Epson ink level shows I use all colors evenly

Did you guys see the status changed on your order. I placed mine on 6/15, then it showed it would be delievered on 6/22. Today when I check it again, I found it changed to 6/29, although the printer is still on "CBO".

there are 3 solutions: 1) A company ( unfortunately) in the U.K called Jet Tec manufactures a kit which includes 2 generic ink carts, and a removable smart chip, and chip re- programmer. Info can be found here:LINK
2) There is also a software hack floating around that is suppose to work , but only works on parallel port models, not usb.
3) Thre is another one I read which involves keeping 2 new cartridges for the "full " cartridges, then swapping in the generics, buy it was a pain in the ass involving removing the top of the printer when you wanted to swap.

Removing the top is no longer necessary.
Go to www.inksupply.com (MSI inks)

They are a tremendous source for inks and info. Just look up refill tips and find the epson 870, 875 and 1270 for info on how to trick printer for using a refill.

cmv - I am in SC, and when I ordered mine, it was listed as in stock. The website said it was to be delivered on the 19th, but it came on the 20th. My printer came from some OM store in Georgia.

Mine was CBO and showed that it was coming on the 29th, but on the 20th I got an email that said it would ship in 24 hours even though when I checked this on the OMax site it still said the 29th. In any case, I got the printer and my free bic pencils on the 22nd. Yay thanks for the help and how do I order the british chip fooler??

PS is anyone else worried about the orange shift????
