Just got back from OM, got the Epson for $79.99. Took the $50 off right at the register. Had about 5 of them left here in Rochester NY Henrietta store. Incredible deal!

ygreenkitty,
Thanks again, this is definitely a hot deal for this printer even though it is discontinued!

There are a few left at OM in Duluth GA, next to the Target on Pleasant Hill.

The Printer Manual says use the following ink cartridges
Black S020189
Color S020191

PCBay has the following prices

Color $9, 5/$42
Color

Black $11
Black

Great prices.

According to the manual I guess it should not be plugged into the power strip. It should have its own plug and be left on for 5 minutes before shutting down after use.

Regards......Gort

I want to raise a few concerns about this rebate. This rebate is unusual in that they require the serial number of the printer. So here is my theory about the Office Max (OM) deal. I think OM is taking the manufactures rebate up-front and instantly passing the savings on to the customer. Since this rebate is tied into a serial number, Epson isn't going to give two rebates for the same printer. This is just a theory. The Epson rebate specifically says that you need to ask the store about rebate procedure.

I am going to OM right now on Sunday morning to see what their display specifically says. I am also curious about what the receipt says.

That's an interesting theory! I just can't imagine Epson trying to keep track of their serial numbers in distribution like that. Obviously they track them once you send in your registration/rebate info.

That would be a bummer if we can't get in on a rebate.

On a side note:
I noticed that my Office Max is no longer doing centralized rebates where you send everything to them and they send you one check. The rebate paper now is just a conglomeration of individual rebate coupons that you cut out and mail to the manufacturers (or rebate fulfillment companies)

EDIT: It just occurred to me that the last few epson rebates I've done required the serial numbers also so nothing unusual.

Epson has always required a serial number on their rebates as long as I remember. They do not want rebates going to resellers and state that on their rebate form. But I have NEVER had a problem with the ten? Epson rebates I have sent in over the years, some as multiples.

I just picked up one in King of Prussia, Pa. They had 3 left. The fine print on the on-line Epson rebate form says:

"..............If you are purchasing at Staples, you must use its form and submit your rebate claim through its in-store procedures. Other retailers may also require use of their own in-store coupon, rather than this coupon to claim this Epson rebate. ..........."

OfficeMax did not use an "in-store coupon" but their receipt says:

"STORE DISC $OFF -50.00EA"

I hope Epson doesn't consider this an "in-store coupon". If they do, then we're fk'd.

Got mine today in Brookfield Conn. Only one left. I am going to call Epson on Monday and ask about Rebate since my receipt also says In store discount -$50.00
I can't see why Epson would consider that their rebate.
Anyone hook it up yet using USB ? I plan on shipping this to a relative for Xmas who is not to computer literate. Was wondering what are the installation steps for it. Can't find the installation manual on their website and I really dont want to open it up to read the manual since it is a present.
Thanks

Any idea if these are original or after market cartridges. They list them as JetMaster Black Ink (S020189) for EPSON STYLUS Color 740 printer.
Also, they are $11.oo each but when I went to checkout the shipping for one cartridge was $6.40 ground. Not sure how much

Just a heads up to Canadians who are sad they cannot get in on this OfficeMax deal. A deal just as good can be had from onvia.com (canada).

179.35 Epson860
20.66 Misc stuff to bring total > 200.00 (ie some CDR blanks)
-50.00 (50 off 200 onvia coupon)
-75.00 (50.00US epson rebate)
--------
$75.00 Cdn

Very cool. Of course the printer is out of stock at Onvia.com (Canada), but what the hell is ever in stock there...you will get it eventually .

jaytone-

Out to Lunch recommended the site..never ordered from them. These were the cartrdge numbers listed in the Printer Manual. You might want to double check the P/Ns from the ones that came with printer. The instructions said not to remove the cartridges once installed so I couldn't check this out. Maybe someone here knows a better deal on cartridges and paper. This thing is very easy to set up.....very good instuctions and lots of printing software. Have it running on USB...make sure to get the A-B cable if you don't have one. I got the Belkin 10' gold plated one from Onvia for $9 when I ordered it. Works great

Just installed my new Epson 860. A six foot USB cable cost me $20 in addition to buying the printer. Print quality seems to be a big step up from my Epson 640. Printed a photo from ACDSee and got absolutely no banding. Not quite film photo quality; but I was using bond paper and only set it to print at 720 dpi.

This is a super deal. Now that I have photo print quality, I can wait a while to get real speed.

I am too worried about getting rebate from Epson if I buy this from OM.
Also, can you do multiple rebates in the same household? The rebate form wasn't clear on this.

None in western Washington, no mention in their ad of limited quantities or
closeout, lots in Hawaii though, but they would not transfer stock

I stopped by an OfficeMax yesterday and while there were quite a few of the cards in the slot they said they didn't have any in stock, but had two on order. They checked and said none of the stores in the area had any, but I did get a rain check for one of the two. After that I stopped in a CompUSA and they had one left, listed at $149.99. I grabbed it and when I checked out the price was $124.99. Today I went back with the ad from OfficeMax and got a price match down to the OfficeMax price. If the employees don't grab mine when it comes in I'll have one from OfficeMax, too.

Ah crap...just did a price check on the phone...169.99 in Hawaii? No mention of the sale in the Sunday ad either. Prices are usually the same here as the mainland. Oh well
