Just picked up 2 Epson 860 printers here in Indianapolis at OM just after the store opened at 10 am. Ticket on display model said $79.99 with no mention of any rebate (or restrictions). Printers came up on register as $79.99 so appears to be legit deal. Thanks for the initial heads up.

I ordered one from Onvia too. How do you cancel when they have already shipped? Can you just refuse the order? If so, does Onvia charge anything for returning it like that?
Thanks.

To answer my own question, I just talked to a CSR at Onvia, and was told to refuse shipment, and to call back afterward to make sure you get credit for it. There is no charge.

Thanks rebuilder for the reply.

That's my usual way of cancelling an order. Most places (buy.com and staples.com) even tells you to just refuse shipment.
You just need to call Onvia to let them know you refused and make darn sure the credit back your card.

It depends on the place whether you are charged shipping. Staples usually gives me back the full amount.

Someone asked what brand refills PC Bay stock - the brand is Jet Master, the cartridge is identical in every way to the Epson ones. I've also tried Unicorn brand from Mrs Ink (I think - I couldn't find the site again when I looked the other day) with no problems.

I just picked up a printer from the OM in North Phoenix - excellent print quality - far superior to my old Epson 600.

One thing the guy in OM said the cartridges that come with the printer were starter cartridges and were only filled 1/4 full, however the print utility is reporting a full cartridge and the packaging for the cartridges doesn't mention that they're starter cartridges - anyone have any feelings on this?

I just stopped by my local OfficeMax and like all the other OfficeMax's in the area, they were out of stock on the Epson 860. Interesting thought, the manager of the OfficeMax offered me a same deal on a HP printer in the range of $99.99 - $129.99. Unfortunately there weren't any good HP printers there but this leads me to believe that the $50 in-store is not part of Epson's rebate? Going to try to find a Epson 860 from CompUSA.

It's too bad there are so many whiners who automatically post their paranoia here, trying to find something to scare everyone with, as if they know what they are talking about.

I called Office Max and was told that the 860 is a discontinued item (thus the cheap price) and that they did not have any and would not have any. The rep I spoke with told me that Office Max was committing fraud. Her manager claimed that all they would have had to do to post the ad was to have ONE of the printers.

Office Max is suck.

Onvia: $90.46 (after coupon) - $50 rebate = $40.46 shipped to my door
Officemax: $79.99 + ~$5 tax (6% here) - $50 rebate = $35.

$5 difference. Not enough for me to go through the hassle of ordering from OfficeMax (going to the store to get one is not worth $5), refusing shipment from OnVia, and making sure I actually get a credit back from OnVia.

So people who bought from OnVia...don't worry about it. Sure it's a better deal, but it's not worth the hassle of dealing with the one you already ordered from OnVia.

Does anyone who bought this printer know if the printer cable is included? Or do we have to buy it separately?

Like most others, the OM I went to was out. So I grab the OM flyer and head across the street to Best Buy. Found one box left on the shelf and ask the a floor employee if BB price matched. He told me to just tell the guy at the register to do the price match. So I go to a normal register and show the guy the OM add and he marks the price down from $119 to $79, no questions ask. Then a rebate form prints out after the reciept and I am on my marry way.

So now what am I gonna do with all these printers? Got the onvia one comming, the one I bought today and the e-stamp hp from a while back. I think I will fleabay the two epsons...

So who's hooked it up and used it yet. From what I read on Cnet, they say that you have to use Inkjet paper (the coated one) to get acceptable text.
I read also the opinions of Cnet User opinions and although most rate it high, many say that you go through ink like crazy.

I have been using Epson printers for years--and printed on just about everything except toilet paper. Epson gives great text. And, the ink cartridges have lasted longer than the cartridges in either the HP or the Lexmark I have used.

The only time I have been unhappy with print quality of the Epson was when I tried to print 1440 resolution high color photos on cheap glossy photo paper. I had some bleeding. When I lowered the resolution, they came out better.

Another thing about Epson, I have had no problem with using generic and refilling my cartridges. Tried that on a HP and destroyed it. My mother runs HP and I can never find her a deal on ink. Their are a couple of ink stores on the net that sell Epson replacements cheap. If I can find it, I will post the link for the store I bought my last batch from. 4 color and 2 black & white for $50 delivered. That was months ago and all I have replaced on my 1200 (which is a very high resolution Epson) is the black & white.

I went to just about every OM around the San Jose and Santa Clara area and all of them were out of stock. Some of the managers were very mad at the ad because the ad went on display went these stores haven't had any Epson 860 stock for around 4 weeks! Anyhow, I took the OfficeMax ad to CompUSA and they won't pricematch the printer for me. They called OfficeMax and told me OfficeMax was giving instant savings on the printer and not handing out the manufacturer rebates for them. CompUSA on the other hand was selling the printers for $129.97 and handing out the rebate forms. This info came from a friend whom I knew that worked at that particular CompUSA store and said they were going to list the printer for $79.99 after rebate in next week ad. Darn.

Went to OM at Fremont, CA @ 11:00 and was told the printer is out of stock. Ask CS to call other OM locations at Union City, CA and Milpitas, CA. Located one at Union City OM and put hold on it (Milpitas one is out of stock). Went to Union City OM and picked it up, also was told they were out of stock after that one too (9 printers in ~ 2hrs.)

If you get the printer from OfficeMax I don't think you can still be eligable for the rebate. I believe after talking to OfficeMax employees that the $50.00 instant savings is the Epson $50.00 rebate. It's still worth a try though. Maybe Epson will still honor the rebate =)

Got one yesterday from Auburn, WA.
My Mac(my pc has HP 930c that i've got for free after rebate, thanks to this board) wouldn't communicate with the printer, so i downloaded the updated driver and voila! It's great. I'm replacing my old faithful 740. I don't know how much better quality this printer prints out, but for <$40($7 tax), it can't be beat. Thanks, ygreenkitty.

Edit: P.S. for those of you who have stylus 740, this printer uses same cartridges!
