I bought an Epson 740 about 3 months ago, and I got a $30 rebate on that... Will they give me $50 rebate for 860 if I buy one?

I too ordered mine from Onvia.com. After spending quite a time looking for the 860 in the Chicagoland area, it was obvious that OfficeMax did not have adequate stock to honor such a sale. At the Oakbrook store, there were 2 printers available which were gone in an hour and by 2:00, every Officemax store in the Chicagoland area were out. While I was told that there "might" be a shipment coming in Wednesday, I decided not to take my chances. I did complain quite strongly to the Customer Rep on Officemax.com and he is sending me a $25.00 gift card. He couldn't understand why this happened as well as the store managers who were taking the brunt of our anger.
I personally plan on carrying this further as I strongly doubt that they would "accidently" conduct a nationwide sale with such little stock on hand.

Damnit!! I called the numbers on two different 860 rebate forms and they both told me they didn't accept rebates from OfficeMax because they have some kind of agreement with them. I forgot to ask them about Onvia - couldn't find the rebate form on the Onvia site.

Is this still even a warm deal without the rebate?

People who purchased from OfficeMax (I almost did, but they were out of stock), would do well to confirm that the rebate from Epson is valid with a purchase of the Stylus 860 from OM. Otherwise, I would get this printer from Onvia, where the rebate should work. The total cost should be around $10 more.

I also just confirmed that the $50 rebate IS NOT VALID for OfficeMax purchases. I called the rebate form # 1-800-277-6187
and they said the rebate will be rejected if the receipt is from OfficeMax, Staples, or Apple. Thank you, you PIGS at OM for making me take another trip to return this printer. For all those that want it for $79.99, go to OM tomorrow, I have a hunch there will be plenty to buy.

Here's my scoop.

I called up the # on the rebate form, and they stated that they would not accept rebates from OfficeMax. I then called up OfficeMax, and they said that the $50 rebate was what allowed the sale price to be $79.99 (that's BS in my opinion since there is no mention of the rebate in the ad or on the receipt). At this point, things are looking bad for this deal.

As a last ditch effort, I called up the Epson customer relations hotline. I talked with a nice lady who said that on Epson's website states that rebates on purchases at OfficeMax are not done through Epson. However, after extensive searching, she cannot find this verbage on the Epson website and neither can I. Then, she proceeds to take down my name and information and told me to send a copy of everything to her...and she would forward it on to the corporate finance office to take care of it. In the end, I will get my $50 rebate.

So, everyone who got this printer, take heart, you can still get the rebate.

csavvy, Do you have any other information for us on getting the rebate if we bought at OM? can you give us an adress, or a phone # and name of the woman that you talked to? I advised Six others about this deal, and they all bought 860's from OM, and we are now wondring if they are worth $79.99. Thanks!

I called (800) 873-7766 which can be found on Epson's Website here. Ask to be transferred to Customer Relations. I spoke with a nice lady named Christine and explained my situation. She said to send a copy of the following:

- rebate form
- UPC code
- serial code
- receipt of purchase

to

Christine
Epson America Inc.
3840 Kilroy Airport Way.
Long Beach, CA 90806
Attn: Christine in Customer Relations

I asked her what my friends should do since they also purchased the printer at OM. She said that they should do what I did, and that any of the people in Customer Relations should be able to help. Good luck all.

Where does it say that the rebate is not valid at OM? There is nothing on Epson's site, or any of the paperwork for the rebate?

My take is, everyone's gonna get their rebate. I really wanted this printer, I went to OM on sunday@11am, no luck. They took my name/number down, and then when I called up yesterday to ask what's the deal, they told me they got a bunch the following monday and sold out in a few minutes. I asked to speak to the manager, and the manager denied that any such thing happened. Hmmm... In any case, I tried calling up almost every other store, to see if it was in stock anywhere else, but nobody has it any more. The Wiz had it like 30 miles away, and i'm too lazy to actually drive that far...today, after college, i'll probably go to kmart and target, because hey, you never know...

Oh yeah, I do have one question though...I see people writing "staples is suck" in other threads, but when I look at the rest of their post, they seem to be able to have correct grammar..so why the hell do they even say "staples is suck"? Wouldn't it be better to say "Staples sucks" or something like that?

I called the rebate center 800 # that is listed on the Epson rebate form. They told me that they havn't been accepting rebates from OfficeMax since Feb, because Officemax has been giving out an instant rebates on the Epson products. FYI

I have been buying InkTec brand replacement carts for the Epson 850 for months, they work great. I also get Refills for my HP printers. You can get them at California Ink Jet... Carts for the Epson 860 are $8.95 Black $10.95 Color.

Dhendra,

"Staples is suck" is an Anandtech forum thing...someone way back when said that, someone pointed that out, and a bunch of others started doing it. It's stupid, don't follow suit.

"Is Suck" is a great tradition around here You will see it on just about everything. Staples got that distiction by screwing customers over with coupon codes. RAMBUS is another good target.

Been to 3 OfficeMax branches today, 3 Staples, a Best Buy, a Circuit City, no 860's anywhere. They had one at the Wiz but wouldn't pricematch OM's $80. They told me their cost was $130. I told them they would never sell it at a profit, and left.

Steve0:

If you want it that bad onvia.com still sells it for $119.99 (free shipment)
And you can still get the $50 Epson rebate w/o problem like OM.

Thanks Scorpi0. I got mine from Onvia when it was $114 and change and the coupon was good, plus rebate. This is a second one for my father, who still uses (and hates) a 4-ppm LaserJet. Maybe I should walk him through ordering from Onvia so he can get the rebate. Thanks.

I just got one at comp usa, I just walked up to the csvc counter
and asked them if they price matched OM they said yes, I asked them
if they had an ad they said no, so I went across the street got an ad
came back got the printer and they said what is our price?
I said does it matter? they said no not really here you are..

pretty cool, I thought they would hassle me a little bit

Yeah, I hit two CompUSA's also and they only had a demo unit, none in the box. Guess I could go to Multiwave dot com ($120) and rebate it down to $70.
