They have the wrong rebate again. Anybody know if the rebate is valid on refurbished printers? I found one for new printers.

time to time, I see this printer go on sale at CompUSA for $70, brand new in box after $30 MIR. If you dont send in MIR, it is still a better deal than buying a refurbished printer

Are you sure you're not thinking about the R200? I've never seen the R300 for 70 AR.
edit:
Because the R200 is 80 after 20 MIR at compusa right now. R 200

Refurb is not in a retail box and you will not get the retail UPC code. The refurb Epson printers I have bought in the past have been in a brown box. No rebates on Epson refurbs.

The Epson refurbs have always had all the items in the box that the retail product have had with them. The ink, driver CD, install info, manual, sample of paper, etc. and as always the printer cable is not included. I have not found any printer that includes the cable, which I think is crazy.

Also, Chief Value & NewEgg have this on sale too.

The only difference between the R200 and R300 is that the R300 will print from flash card memory.

I just picked up a refurbished R300 from Fry's for $50 after rebate. Anybody that has this, is the power button not a one quick touch on and off? Or is this the reason mine was refurbed. To turn it on, I have to hold the power button for a few seconds and 1 sec to turn it off.

Also, anybody who prints on Cd's and DVD's, do you burn them first and then print, or print and burn?

I used to rep epson printers and as far as i saw then all the epsons have a delayed startup and shutdown, the multifunctions take like 10-15 sec for each. About the burning, I for one would suggest burn first then print, if the burn is crap you wont have wasted the ink, and believe me, even with second rate discount ink, cds are still cheaper.

I have this printer and yes, you do have to hold the power button a few seconds to power-on/off. I'm sure it was a little worrying the first time when you hit the button and nothing happens

Like the other guy said, burn them first. It doesn't matter from a procedural standpoint, but if the burn fails, you wasted that ink for nothing.

Do these have the same problems as the CX series, that the heads clog up after a year or two and the print quality goes down entirely?

My CX5200 (which I got for a ridiculously low price thanks to a post here) no longer prints legibly after about two and a half years. It's well out of warranty, but this problem is known to be so bad that Epson agreed to pay for the cost of repairs as well as shipping to and from the repair facility.

So I'm cautious about Epson printers for that reason.

My R300 is about a year old and works fine. There was a time when I didn't use it for a while and the print quality went waaay down. I'm assuming it was because of the ink drying up somewhere in there. I ran the print-head cleaner routine a few times and it's back to normal. I like this printer a lot. I use it mainly for CD printing but photos and paper work well too.
