I still play. I quit after a disappointing first month but came back after EOF expansion came out. It took awhile before I warmed up to it but I enjoy it more every day I play.

I just wish they finally fix the "whack a mole" spell/ability bars which cause me to focus on clicking the lighting up buttons rather than watching the game. I heard Kunark (or shortly after) was going to fix that but I'm sure they have been promising that for months.

Do you play Bateluer? What server? I'm on Antonious Bayle.

I resubscribed recently with a friend who was way excited for Kunark. We're rolling up Sarnaks today on Antonia Bayle.

I've been playing since release and in my opinion the population is increasing. The expansions, especially EoF and now Kunark have literally transformed the game, it is nothing like it was at release.

Our guild on Antonia Bayle recruited a ton of newbies and returning players. We recruited something like 60-70 new members in the past 6 months when we decided to stop being one of those revolving door guilds where people join to reach 70 then leave.

So instead of having 4-5 online at once for this expansion, we should have 20-40 online at once tonight, it'll be great!

I wish they would release the retail versions in DVD format. All I ever see are CD versions, which are over 10 CDs. I like the digital downloads, but when/if I have to reinstall it takes a good 16 hours to re download everything.

Edit - Here are the patch notes.

Game Update #40 November / 13 / 2007
RISE OF KUNARK IS HERE!
To arms! The continent of Kunark has been rediscovered in the waters of the Timorous Deep! The lich emperor, Venril Sathir, has spent the last 500 years nearly conquering the breadth of the land, driving the Di?Zok to make their final stand in the city of Chardok. Suddenly awakened into a hostile world, the sarnak of Gorowyn have begun to explore not only a vast and varied land, but also their own mysterious past -- not stopping for anything that might stand in their way. Will you be able to tame this harsh land, or will you be unable to stop the Rise of Kunark?

RACIAL TRAITS
Most races have had their racial traits improved to be useful from levels 1-80!

Along with the new racial traits there is a new way to see what racial and class traits you can choose now and further along in your adventuring career.

By pressing the ?L? button you will open a window that contains three tabs. Two of them are for spending your Achievement points, and the third is the new ?Character Development? tab. Check out this new tab to see all your options and at what level you will achieve them.

As a part of the launch of this new system, every existing player will be able to review and change their character development choices one time.
GAMEPLAY
Level 20-70 experience gain rate has been smoothed to be more beneficial, and pre-70 quests now pay out more experience!

New characters who choose Gorowyn or Kelethin as their home city will be greeted with a new, in-game, cinematic when they first enter the game.

Only items in ranged and melee weapon slots can be swapped while in combat.
MAP SYSTEM
Zoom, pan and resizing have been added to the in game map.

To zoom in use your mouse wheel or the buttons in the lower right corner of the map.

Once you are zoomed in you can pan around the map my clicking and dragging your mouse when the cursor displays as a hand.

The map window can now be resized just like other UI windows in the game.

Always wanted a minimap? Now you can make one!
MUSIC
EverQuest II now boasts all-new adaptive combat music!

Expect fights to sound differently based on the pace of combat, whether you're winning or losing, as well as how difficult the fight is

Turn your combat music back on! It's seriously worth it.
SPELLS

Troubador

The daze effect has been removed from Precision of the Maestro.

Concentration is no longer needed for the Performer?s Talent line.

Performer?s Talent line will now only trigger on the initial damage hits.
Dirge

The Death?s Door line no longer requires concentration.
TRADESKILLS
The level cap on all primary and secondary tradeskills has been raised to 80 for players who have purchased the Rise of Kunark expansion.

New level 70-80 tradeskill recipes are now available for all classes, as are level 70-79 tradeskill city writs for all starting cities.

Several new quests are now available in Kunark for higher level crafters of all adventure levels. Speak to
Assistant Jones at the docks in Kylong Plains, and Taskmaster Greeblentus in Teren?s Grasp to learn how you can assist.

Several optional new faction paths allow crafters to assist certain factions within Kunark and earn their trust. Taskmaster Greeblentus can guide you towards these.

A new tradeskill faction has entered Norrath with the discovery of Gorowyn: the Academy of Logistics, bringing more titles for players to earn and new faction furniture items to be purchased.

Stack sizes of harvested items have been increased across all level ranges.

Changes to the crafting UI automatically bring up the reaction arts you need, and will override your 1-6 keys while the window is up. If you want to continue using your old hotbars, simply click elsewhere so the crafting window loses focus.

Tradeskill delegates now offer a new tradeskill tutorial quest series to give more information to new crafters (or old ones who would like a refresher). If you were in the middle of the old tutorial quest series you will find these autocomplete, and you can pick up the new one.

Tradeskill reaction arts now auto-upgrade as you level up, no more hunting in knowledge books to find your latest!

Tinkerers and transmuters now have 6 reaction arts like other classes. These still need to be purchased from the appropriate vendors, however.

Harvesting tools no longer need to be equipped to be used. They do however still need to be attuned.

Recipes no longer yield non-pristine products. Instead, if you fail to create a pristine quality product, your fuel will be returned for handcrafted recipes, or your rare for mastercrafted. More details can be found in this discussion: http://forums.station.sony.com...list.m?topic_id=366825

Carpenters will find some belated evil furniture items appearing in their existing recipe books ? just in time for a very evil Frostfell?

Experience granted by tradeskill writs will now scale more smoothly. They should grant about 5% at higher levels and a bit more at lower levels.
FOUR YEAR VETERAN REWARDS
It's only our third birthday! Why four year veteran rewards already? Remember that you get 90 days free Veteran Reward time for each expansion that you own. Four expansions plus three years means new rewards!
A title The Zealous
Your fame has grown. Tales of your exploits have been told among the citizenry of major cities across Norrath. In the cities, children grow up wanting to be just like you. Don't be surprised if you're worshipped by all while gracing them with your presence.
Treasure Hoard
A treasure chest that symbolizes your amassed wealth as an accomplished citizen of Norrath. Your home city is lucky to have you as a citizen. Placing one of these items in your home will cause all landlords to give you a 25% discount on your coin rent.
Mystic Moppet Billy
All that fame and constant recognition can be draining on Norrath's own superstars. Sometimes it's refreshing to be able to disappear into the background. You can do so more easily with your own Billy Illusion.
Draft of the Skilled (x3) and Draft of the Wise (x3)
Not that a person of your stature would need such assistance, but famous people lead busy lives. Any time they can save leads to more time for heroic deeds and economic exploits. The most advanced adventurers and crafters do have their public to think about, after all

Check out this news article on EQ2Players.com for all the details about the veteran rewards.

I don't believe there is a trial that includes the RoK content yet. Most current trial is the Play the Fay trial, which has content from EoF.

tempted to resubscribe, but all I have is the base game, how much would purchasing all of the expansions / adventure packs cost me?

Buying Kunark for $40 gets you everything retroactively. It's awesome.

Edit: Though there is currently an error where the older expansions don't show up properly.

I got in last night easily enough. I was actually probably one, if not, the firsts to do so considering I discovered the /claim'ed cockatrice and then discovered all the tier 8 fuel.

I expect some changes soon such as the burnayi digger pet... I gave it around 20 food from all my toons and it gave me 18 collectibles from any zone so I doubt they will leave that in place as it will really trivialize all shinies.

Other than that, I didn't do much... the usual folks are rushing and it is not any harder to level considering I saw a level 72 last night maybe 3 hours after launch.

And to make it even more fun, after patching overnight and running it again, it patches more...

Is it that hard to create an index of files and download the latest versions?

And then i log in and can play two races, so i click one, and it tells me i need additional content.

After downloading the additional content, which took another 3 hours.

The game crashes with .exe errors on load.

Thanks sony, you have convinced me

What a steaming pile of game.

Allow me to clear up your misunderstanding of how the Station Launcher functions.

By default, it only DLs required content, such as your starting cities and the major zones. You need to click 'Preferences' from the Launcher and check the boxes for optional content. By default, they are selected to DL while you play. If you just intend to hang around in town, its no big deal. However, I like to have all my content loaded so I can act on any whim I choose, therefore I tell all the optional content to DL prior to launch.

After DLing the RoK content last night and this morning, I just checked now and there's some additional content that needed to be DLed and I don't see any Hotfix notes on the update notes. Thats odd. For me, it only took about 2 minutes though.

The lengthy RoK update is because the RoK expansion is 1) Huge and 2) because it also includes all previous adventure packs. If you hadn't bought those in the past, it will now DL them if you bought RoK.

Edit - How come we can never have an EQ2 thread without fanatical Sony haters spouting off in it? I don't post in every WoW thread about how the game is crap, how all Blizzard's talent left long ago, and how the company no longer remembers how to make a quality game or write a good story.

While that is pretty innovative, it certainly doesnt encourage new players to play.

Yeah, i wanna be a friggin winged fairy and max out in level in 3 hours without doing any quests or grouping...

To be clear, i got sick of WoW and was looking forward to trying EQ2.

Holy moly, all of the expansion packs and adventure packs are included? One hell of a deal for a ton of content (not even counting the tons of free (well included in the monthly fee) content updates that have been issued since I left around Live Update ~14 (whenever the new combat revamp was issued))).

The EQ2 trial used to be much less restrictive, level cap of 20, no tell limit, etc. However, the spammers got a hold of it and flooded the game with tell spam. Various responses have been created as a response, including several from SOE including a spam filter and a /report function.

Look at the state of EVE online. Its flooded every 20seconds by gold sellers, I think this is a good move.

Thats all well and good, but what about the race (and by proxy class) restrictions? and level 10?

We all know that the baby levels dont tell you anything about a game. I think shadowbane 1-10 wont be much different
