The story is one cliche after another. And the name seems like the writers made a typo while trying to type "dragon" and said "eh, seems good to me"

LOL. I thought he meant to rip off Aragorn from LOTR but forgot how it was spelled and was too lazy to look it up.

Yea, I read it, and thats what I saw. It read like a fantasy novel written by a 15 year old, and he was too young to cover up when he stole from other fantasy novels like everybody else does.

From the posters and still shots I've seen, this movie is going to suck hard.

my thoughts exactly.

Both books are great, but the movie looks meh. Looks like they might have butchered it.

Isn't that what the whole fantasy genre consists of?

Ordinary young man: "I'm just an ordinary young man"
Wise man: "But you are destined for great things. As it happens, the world/universe is about to fall to evil, and you are the only one who can stop it."
Ordinary young man" "Can I finish my cheerios first"
Wise man: "While you were eating your cheerios, your whole family was slain, now you have no choice but to come with me"
Ordinary young man: "I guess I do have some special abilities, but there nowhere near enough to take on that source of powerful evil"
Wise man: "Keep training, i'll catch up with you later. If you can find some less talented but loyal friends to join you."

To be continued......

Now pay me a couple of million for my book and the movie rights.

Yea I refused to pronounce it Eragon in my head. At first it sounded like Aragon, which is a little too close to Aragorn.

Anytime I see it now, I hear "E-Ragin" and remember that it was a waste of time. I think this movie will be a Harry Potterized LOTR with the dialog and general quality of Home Alone 4. Targeted at 9 year old boys.

Eragon = The Star Wars story in a Tolkien like world with a few other stolen fantasy ideas thrown in to the mix. If you've watched Star Wars and read Lord of the Rings that's ~90% of the book right there.

In all honesty it wasn't a terrible book, but it wasn't good either. The second book, Eldest, as horrific.

It is 11:53EST, 12/15/2006, and this crapfest is 13% at RT.

I really enjoyed this review (text below)

<movie trailer voiceover guy>
In a time of darkness, under the evil reign of John Malkovich ? who sits upon a throne in a different sound stage from the rest of the cast ? a hero shall rise. But lo, there will be little rejoicing, for this dragon rider (newcomer Edward Speleers) is but a nancy boy, about as imposing as Lance Bass, and somehow in possession of the only soap and clean clothes in all the land. (This despite being a humble farmer.) And there shall come a big blue CGI dragon, gifted with the telepathic timbre of Rachel Weisz, yet probably incapable of kicking the ass of the Sean Connery?voiced beast from Dragonheart. Said dragon shall be the sole focus of all in director Stefen Fangmeier?s lame fantasy world, its mighty pixels emoting more effectively than Djimon Hounsou and Robert Carlyle in bad wigs, or King Malkovich?s army of evil balding fat men. Much wailing and gnashing of teeth will ensue, especially when singer Joss Stone tries to play a fortunetelling Gypsy, while songs by Avril Lavigne and Jem manifest upon the soundtrack.

My 9 year old has been raving about wanting to see this. I guess I should see what it's all about beforehand.

I hate to acknowledge it, but knowing that the movie is only PG makes me not want to watch it. Otherwise I'm usually in the mood for a fantasy, even a flop such as I expect this to be.

I just got back from seeing Eragon, though I read the book first.

The book isn't bad, its just geared for a younger audience. Its still pretty decent though.

Warning *SPOILERS!*

The movie was disappointing, at first it appeared to follow the book . . . for about the first 15 minutes. Then it started skipping things, important things. Almost all of Eragon's travels with Brom were removed, almost all of Eragon's travels with Murtagh were removed. Arya seems to be human, I didn't see any dwarves. Solenbum, the werecat, was removed. Angela the witch had a short scene where she reads Eragon's fortune, but she doesn't journey to the Varden like in the book. Some of the special effects were pretty good, especially with Saphira and her battle scenes though.

*End Spoilers*

I haven't read the second book yet, I've heard mixed things about it. Since I've got a stack of other books to read, I think I'll hold off on it until its in paperback and the 3rd book is out.

my mom and sister saw it and they said it sucked, that the story line is very similar to starwars with a LOTR's setting

"

'Eragon'

The title character is a dragon flyer. His winged mount can read his thoughts and he can read hers. Jeremy Irons says things like "before you can cast a spell, you must learn the magic language of the elves" while helping battle wicked king John Malkovich. If the thing had even an ounce of camp it might be mild fun. Instead, it wants to start a Lord of the-Rings-style franchise, and it's more or less insufferable."

actually I liked both books. the first one played along the lines of a regular fantasy. The second one took a bit of a different turn atleast to me and was much more entertaining as it was also much more dark.
