For what crime? If you absolutely require a scapegoat for the financial crash you could just as easily put the regulators on trial for allowing the real estate bubble to inflate as far as they did.

I would say that there was a good bit of fraud involved in the whole financial collapse.

I think a presidential pardon is in Holder's future. The timing of this is in accordance with that.

Obama has nothing to lose as he's not up for election, so nothing would surprise me. I wonder if he holds off naming a replacement until after the elections, then rams it through the senate before January if by some miracle the Rs get the senate back.

Can he fill that position with a recess appointment?

Eric Holder was probably the best AG we've had in years, in contrast to the criminals appointed by Republicans. Compare the records of Eric Holder and that of Alberto Gonzales, Michael Mukasey, or Ed Meese.

I'm going to be astounded if Holder has done anything for which he truly needs a Presidential pardon. I do suspect his going is due to his court loss on Fast And Furious, but if I had to lay money I'd bet that was instituted within the BATFE and Holder only gave arguably legal cover after the fact to prevent political damage. As with Christie, when someone under you does something political that ostensibly supports your position, nobody really believes you didn't do it or were at least silent while it was being done, but that's a far cry from actual criminal action. The cover up itself - well, unless he committed specific criminal acts Holder is clear, and he has a long Presidential/Executive Branch history to guide him on what is and what is not permissible. I don't think he'd intentionally cross that line and risk doing direct political damage to Obama (not to mention risking prison) to prevent indirect political damage to Obama.

I don't care for the man or his politics, but I've never considered him a criminal, even when he really, really pisses me off.

I remember when people complained about Ashcroft. What happened? We got Gonzales who gladly supported what Ashcroft was too principled to go along with. Deja vu?

What has Holder been too principled to go along with?

Given Snowden's claims, I suspect it was Holder who gave the 'OK' for allowing the NSA to go full steam ahead with spying on US citizens in 2011.

Most of the people here saying good riddance etc probably haven't a clue what he did or didn't do. They just know they are supposed to hate him because thats what their ignorant friends, hate radio or fox tells them they should. Happens on the left to but not nearly as virulent.

personally, I hate him because he used the Justice Department to advocate his view that it's OK to kill an American citizen anywhere in the world without a trial, the Fast & Furious clusterfuck, failing to go after any Wall St execs after the housing market collapse, and trying to basically criminalize reporting (in addition to his total defense of NSA spying on Americans)

"Happens on the left to but not nearly as virulent." Yes it is. Goes both ways.
To the OP question. Why leave? x10 the money in private practice. More freedom.
Thank you for your service.

the NSA doesn't answer to the DOJ.

Well said, although technically his opinion is that only American citizens actively engaged in war against America AND in areas where American legal authority cannot be exercised are legal targets. This is war; you don't get a trial first in war.

the NSA doesn't answer to the DOJ.
They answer to the President, and the AG advises the President on matters of legality.

The point being, Holder didn't "ok" any such thing, that's all.

 berrie has a long list of friends and mentors to chose from. course he already used eric holder - the incompetent asshole. who might be waiting in the wings? how about the communist - frank marshall davis? maybe the spiritual racist bigot - jeremiah wright? if none of those fit he can always fall back on the terrorist - bill ayers! he might also consider derrick bell who would fight tirelessly to help ensure the constitution be amended to include his critical race theory

Funny how so many, obviously republicans, are happy about this.
Considering Holder fought for voting rights, civil rights, and equality.
So its no wonder republicans are doing a happy dance.
A man that fought for the people and their rights, and republicans disliked that notion.
Go figure....
Oh wait, we need not go figure.
Republicans do love their oppression.
Nothing new there....

I like how he fought against the abuse of intelligence agencies and domestic spying. Oh wait, he didn't. Then there's how he undid what his predecessors did with the patriot act and fought for our fourth amendment rights. Oh he didn't, in fact we're worse off. You Democrats sure love your oppression, and now a war so you can keep up with those Republicans. Don't you feel special?

Frankly I have no use for either of you.
