Hi

I am thinking of buying a new mobile phone, and I am just wondering if you have any advice. And please tell me what you got and if you are happy with it.

Thanks!

I've always had and used Motorola and they have never let me down. I currently have the Timeport. Really great phone, kind of expensive though.

depends on what you're looking for in a cell phone as far as service and plans. after you decide a carrier look into their line of phones, phones work on different networks and are exclusive to each carrier. if you want a professional look, a customized appeal, size, features, they differ for each phone manuf.

nokia's more for the trendy teens, motorolas are more used by businesses, and ericssons are a nice cross that have small sizes and styles as well as a professional appeal.

Used the NOkia 5110 brick phone,3210 ,7110 and also had a go at the 3310 for the week.. currently using the 7110 nd NONE of them ahve let me down.. apar form teh occasional crash from the 7110 cause of the old software Need to get it flashed soon...

Motorolla I ahve used the V.50 for a few days in H.K on hol, just to try it out and its amazing..

Not tried Erricsons though..

But Nokia or Motorola get my vote.

The Nokia 5000 series are probably the most reliable digital phones around. Currently, I have all three brands. A Motorola Timeport Timeport GSM tri-band (the first tri-band with WAP), an Ericsson T28 world, a Nokia 5000 series one, and my newest toy, Nokia 8890. The Nokia interface is very easy to get used to and probably has the least learning curve. The second best interface would go with the Motorola. The Ericsson is kinda cumbersome plus the screen is small (but its very easy to read). For text messaging, Motorola is a 5-liner (although small characters). The ericsson flip cover feels flimsy but hasn't given me any problems yet. I've heard of some Nokia 8890 owners complain about problems with the sliding mouthpiece. The Motorola has been dropped and banged around so much, I've lost count but it still runs great. But if you bleed the LCD, Motorolas are pretty much goners. Nokia's have replaceable LCD's so if you mess it up, its not a total yet A plus for the Ericsson is its thinness. For the show-off, the ultimate expression in style would be the Nokia. For an all business feel, the Motorola gets the thumbs up. If you want portability, something that you canslip inside your bag and not bulge out, the Ericsson is the way to go. The T29 with WAP is already out in Asia and Europe so waiting may be good.

the nokia 8200 series are cheap, but they stink!
not durable, poor reception, poor volume, poor everything.

if you want something cheap, but looks good, 8200 is for you... if you want a real cellphone, get something else.

I'm planning to switch my 8260 to something else, but I can't find any phone that looks as good as that for the same price. I'd go with a GSM carrier and get the 8890 (expensive), but then their price plans are suck.

ugh, I hate trade offs.

I liked my Motorola StarTAC analog phone, but all of my friends have Nokia's. Since I recently lost my phone, I'm going to try to get a hold of a Nokia 5165 (anybody have one for sale?) that works with Cingular (TDMA). I've always regarded Ericson as being cheap junk for some reason, don't know why. Do cell phones that are designed for one network (like AT&T) work with Cingular if they are both TDMA phones?

Why do so many Americans use the Nokia 5XXX series? Here in teh U.k they are cheap, nasty and a brick.. so what do my mates who ahve them do.. drop them on teh floor etc etc like a brick.. and they upgrade to a 8210..

when some of my friends in teh US came here and saw my 7110 they said cool phone.. like the Matrix one.. said the common one over there is 5XXX, I said crap! mine is considered old here.. there are 8850, 8210s flyign around here everywhere.. 8210 = one used in Charlie's Angels.. 8850 is the one about the same size but silvery and manual pull down active slide.. and mine is spring loaded active slide..

and for some reason I guess people are goign to say i am slagging off American phones.. then again buying phoens over there are much more expensive than over here.. so we pay less for better.. and for alot of dodgey ones too.. get contacts and you are good for a phone over here.. especially in London.
