error accesing the registry!!!

Windows enounterd a error accesing the registry Please restart etc.. What would you do??
It says this after windows boots up everytime I start com, and I notice it goes to defualt backgroung screen when it starts.
Then I click O.K & it restarts & goes into reg checker , then it backs up reg fixes what ever was wrong then restars again. Then I get into windows(98se).

What is wrong here iv ran reg clean?
What an I do?
Is the nvidia corp under hkey local machine supposed to there for stock prophet g=2 64mb card, or is that still there from when i had detanator drivers on the system?

My friend had the same problem. It turns out that msdtc (comes with personal web server) kept crashing during boot up, which made the computer think that the registry was bad, even though it wasn't.

To fix this, we uninstalled personal web server and removed the line that starts msdtc out of the registry. It was located here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices

If you have anything that crashes during boot up, that is most likely the problem.

uninstalled it then went to take it out of the reg. but didnt see any line msdtc under run services?
Any clues?

He uninstalled it, which took it out, but when he rebooted, the registry went back to the old one, so he had to take it out again.

I'm not saying its definitely personal web server... I'm just saying if anything crashes during boot up, the program that crashes may have something to do with it.

Try a boot to dos and goto windows\command dir and run "scanreg /opt /fix" (no quotes) from there and that may help. It has me many, many times.
