I took my computer from my apartment to my house. I brought all the cables, just left the monitor. The car ride was about 1 hour. I hooked up my computer 1 hour later and now right after the Windows loading screen I get the error message:

Windows did not start to avoid damage to your computer. Run a diagnosis check, especially on memory, try changing video adapters, and remove any new software or hardware?

*** STOP: 0x0000007F (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I keep getting it every time I restart my computer. Every other time I restart it, I get an option to go into Safe mode (which I can do but I can?t check system log because the interface isn?t loaded). I called DELL technical support and they didn?t help at all. They made me do system restore and diagnosis check (express and extended). Then they sent me to a software technician. He thought it was because of Norton Anti-virus (but I would have gotten a 0x00000008 after the 7F). He did a few steps and had no idea, then he sent me back to a hardware technician and he told me to do a full scan (which takes over an hour). All test passed. He was supposed to call me back but he didn?t.

I made sure everything was in place in my computer. I haven?t installed any new hardware or software in the past month. I can?t think of anything that could be the problem.

Dell Dimension 4600:
Windows XP Professional
2.4 ghz Pentium 4
512mb ddr PC2700 ram
Nvidia Geforce?
80gb 7200rpm HD

I've seen that before, it usually means a serious hardware problem...

From MS:

The above STOP error means a trap occurred in kernel mode and the trap is either one the kernel is not allowed to have or is always fatal. The most common causes of a STOP 0x7F are:
? Low-level hardware corruption, such as corrupt memory (RAM)
? Mismatched memory modules
? A malfunctioning motherboard
To determine an approximate cause, examine the parameters at the top of the STOP screen:
**STOP 0x0000007F (0x000000XX, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP
The most important parameter is the first one (0x0000000X) which may have several different values. The cause of this trap can vary, depending on the value of this parameter. All traps that cause a STOP 0x7F can be found in any Intel x86 microprocessor reference manual as they are specific to the x86 platform. Here are some of the most common ones:

Values Meaning
---------- --------------------
0x00000000 Divide by Zero Error
0x00000004 Overflow
0x00000005 Bounds Check Fault
0x00000006 Invalid Opcode
0x00000008 Double Fault

So it's divide by 0. Sounds like a memory error, run memtest86 to check. Maybe the RAM got dislodged during the car ride? Or maybe it got a static charge from somewhere.

Ive had a hard drive go bad just by transporting the computer, Your error doesnt look that bad, a reformat would be the first thing I would try the trip could have disrupted data but thats a guess.

Run a chkdsk first - these errors can happen anytime and may not mean anything serious. For chkdsk - open explorer right click on drive - properties - tools tab - check, the pc will reboot and run chkdsk at startup
