"Error loading Operating System" oh hell,

OK,
I read a related post that I searched for and he said he reset the system during windows XP install, I didn't and I am getting the same error message.

System will post, according to MSI Website I have the latest Bios version.

I can boot from CD.

The only odd item is that I am using the HD that I took out of my old computer with windows already on it.

Also, is 48 degrees normal for idle temp on CPU AMD 64 3400? 36 degrees NB temp ok?

Oh, yeah, I have a floppy installed, CD-ROM, CD RW, all non SATA. Using IDE cables.

Video is Asus V9980 ultra GeForce FX 5950.

I tried re-loading windows and it goes through that whole thing and when it restarts I get the same message "Error Loading Operating system"

Now what?

Clear Bios?
Change 1st boot source to HD instead of floppy?

48 seems a little high for an Athlon64. Ensure that your heatsink is seated properly. You might want to try reseating it as well.

Try running Memtest86 to ensure that your RAM is good. Best way to do this is to run it overnight and make sure there are no errors in the morning.

If you have the wrong partition set as active this can happen. It can also happen if your partition table is damaged.

Do NOT run fixmbr when you see this error. ever.

Change your active partition to the one you have boot.ini, ntldr and ntdetect on.


Edit: You CAN safely run fixboot from recovery console and this may help.

Changed Hard drive format to "Large" and it took right off. Thank you for the post with the link. It was what got me on that path.
