I have a small domain that is strictly a Windows 2000 envirorment. I have 5 clients running 2000 Pro and the server running 2000 Server. On one of the clients, lets say computer "Fred" I can see computer "Barney" but when I try to access the resources on Barney it times out with the error message \\Barney is not accessible There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. I can still ping Barney by name or IP address after receiving the error message. All the other client machines can access Barney with no problems. Barney can see and access Fred's and the other client machines resources just fine. It seems like a SID problem to me, any ideas?...Thanks!

Edit: I forgot the computer that is having problems accessing the other computer is dual bootable (2000 Pro / XP Pro) When I boot XP I can access the other computer.

This behavior can occur because the computer and/or user is logged on with cached credentials. This allows the computer to log on to the domain even though the computer is not communicating properly with the domain controller.

When a domain user attempts to gain access to shares on a computer, the Windows 2000-based computer tries unsuccessfully to contact the domain controller and verify the user's credentials. Because the computer cannot contact the domain controller, the errors occur.

You should see some improvement in your situation by moving the computer out of the domain, into a workgroup, deleting the computer account from Active Directory, and re-joining the domain.

If this does not fix your problem, I would guess you have a DNS issue. The above suggestion first and let us know.
