Yup, looks much more solid in pre-prod silicon than all this VIA crap we've been putting up with, thats for sure.

Yeah the nforce is all that I expected, but how much do you think a board will really cost?

I don't know why you call it the "latest" when in fact it's the same one Van Smith did ages ago.

And that "article" looks like it's 90% verbatim from nvidia marketing literature with 10% heavily biased review.

some points to consider:

-how can the onboard sound be "industry leading" when it's not even released yet?
-why does van claim they can't release any benchmarks, but then puts up a very pretty graph where a 1.44 gig file copies so much faster?
-is there not even *ONE* flaw his test system? After his "hundreds of hours" of testing I find it hard to believe this is a *perfect* motherboard (something that has never happened with production mobos let alone test samples)

I'm very excited about nforce too but I really have to wonder why this 1 article keeps popping up everywhere but no one else in the world seems to have actually tested the hardware.

I've seen the exact same preview a week ago, it was under the news section of amdmb.com. It wasn't amdmb.com's, but they posted that someone else had done a preview of the nforce. That one is the exact same one as the one posted in the first post. I too am excited about the Nforce, hopefully all our hype is proven true by mid/late august. Now if only the palamino would come out then, I could get this rig done a month earlier.

someone on AcesHardware.com claims InQuest is a sleazy marketing company, which would certainly jive with them trying to create hype about the nforce by plastering that overdramatic article everywhere.

Van Smith says the article was edited to create an unbalanced review that he didn't intend.

I think we should wait for SERIOUS review sites to get their hands on it before getting too excited.

hopefully not with a microATX. Only Asus has shown a full ATX board so far. god I cannot wait for this and for a 1.5 Athalon4 (MP or otherwise)! Until then I chug a long on this POS p2-400

Can you say propoganda? I hope that nForce stands up to all the hype. It will be an awesome motherboard if it does.

I believe that the file copy graph in this article is taken from the review by inquest. Inquest retracted their graph and said that it was completely erroneous. Inquest claims ~30% faster. There was a thread on anandtech that talked about the inquest review.

"someone on AcesHardware.com claims InQuest is a sleazy marketing company,"

Well, ask yourself how a "market analysts" make money. And then decide if you think they are a good source for unbiased hardware reviews.

Not much different than a Jeep salesman writing an article about which SUV should be your next vehicle, imho.

First off, Van Smith is a disgruntled employee. He has left inQuest. Of course he would bash it.

In either case, I think it was wrong for a respectable hardware site, such as Electic Tech, to post that preview anyway. Considering Van Smith is such a nut case. All he does is whine!

This sounds positive. Is it true I wonder?

We had the opportunity to thoroughly exercise multiple nForce 420 reference platforms. Using pre-production silicon we logged several hundred hours of continuous testing. nForce delivered rock solid stability under all of our evaluations, benchmarks and torture tests. The only irregularity we encountered was related to the integrated graphics core, but this problem was immediately resolved by flashing our outdated BIOS.

It was not Van Smith who said that about inquest. He just said the article was edited in ways he didn't want.

The article makes the nForce sound like the greatest thing since sliced bread. I want one even though I just upgraded my PC!

Oh and I am waiting for the ASUS one!

no ETA but the word on the street is that Intel is not going to give nForce a BUS liscence (for nForce to support Intel chips)

Where did you hear that?
I find it VERY hard to imagine Intel would risk their own integrated chipset sales by licensing their bus to Nvidia.

why would nvidia need a bus license from intel... the nforce is for the athlon and uses the ev-whatever bus (not the intel's bus...)
now that i think about it who owns the ev bus(es)? ...
hmm interesting...
oh well nvidia is not waiting on intel that i know is for sure...

You think nVidia is content only making chipsets for AMD ? Doesn't Intel still do a bit more volume?

The article seemed like a press release. So what if you want to put a Geforce3 or a SB card in a nforce mb? Can you disable the integrated components? And what about Nvidia, with this move, what are their plans for their slot graphic cards...all integrated into some all-in-one mb? What about their competition, more mb integration. Too many questions and not enough answers.

And who do the license that bus from?

Alpha

And who just bought Alpha?

Bingo

[EDIT]

Ok smack me around like a little b!tch. After re-reading the article, it seems that Compaq is will be licensing the technology to Intel. They also stated that it will be a "a nonexclusive licensing agreement" so Compaq should still be able to license the bus to AMD/etc
