I am not going to argue (much) about moving non GCN to legacy, however,
AMD really should have released a final WHQL certified driver for these cards.
WHQL has the encryption keys & DRM turned on for those that need this, and it is a shame that to get programs that require DRM working, your only choice is to use that last WHQL release from July.

the last windows 10 whql is the last one supporting vliw4/5

The Fallout 4 issues aren't related to VLWI being legacy...

It's GameWorks.

At this point we don't know whether Bethesda even tried to support older GPUs, they obviously didn't bother optimizing for GCN at all so expecting them to optimize for VLIW is a bit of a stretch.

My old laptop with 5770 has played every game I threw at it for the past 2 years. I haven't bought Fallout 4 yet though.

I don't see how gameworks is responsible for an obvious bug that only affects DX11 non GCN Radeons and not GCN Radeons or Nvidia cards and was not fixed by the Fallout 4 specific Catalyst which had non GCN Radeons on the supported list

http://imgur.com/UVOIZCU

see the edges on the character, it stays there with godrays enabled on pre GCN Radeons, this is just one example, Battlefront was worse.

Win10 & Qnix 2710 + Crimson OC edition = failed.

With the Crimson driver installed, I am not able to get the built-in Custom Resolution utility to set my Qnix 2710 to 96Hz. Hitting Verify will not accept the setting. :\

atikmdag-patcher 1.34 doesn't detect the DVI Limit yet. Without that, I set the CRU to 96Hz anyway, reboot and monitor was stuck with rainbow. I wasn't able to run cmd as admin to bcdedit /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy back to safe mode. :'( It's lucky that I have setup Teamviewer unattended access to avoid further time damage. :sneaky:

The built-in CRU verify button doesn't really try to apply the 96Hz to the monitor to test if it work but simply reading some value from the monitor itself which many Korean monitors may just reported 60Hz as available by default, unlike the pricey IPS/TN.

So Crimson still need 3rd party help from ToastyX to support the Korean monitors people which is disappointing.

7/10, since Crimson CRU gave me warning and I accept the risk but doesn't let me blow up my monitor.

AppsData/Local/AMD

The cache themselves are really tiny. It's the on the fly shader compiling that hogs CPU/GPU delaying level loading etc.

This was a really good move on AMD, a novel feature that gives everyone a free performance upgrade.

Thanks. I have the option ticked but I guess I haven't run anything to create the DXCache folder yet.

Anyone know where the shader cache files are stored? I'd like to move them off my ssd.
Why would you want to move them off of your SSD?

Thanks. I have the option ticked but I guess I haven't run anything to create the DXCache folder yet.
It also needs to be an app that AMD has enabled shader caching for. The default is "AMD optimized" which is different from enabling it for all games universally, as it means AMD has specifically set shader caching for this game (and thus may have disabled it).

So these drivers have made my display act really weird with freesync on. I'm using a XL2730Z right now, and whenever I play a game and alt tab out of it the desktop starts flickering annoyingly, like the backlight is changing brightness quickly. Before I updated my drivers, I was getting this problem in heroes of the storm, however, it never happens in any other game I've tried or on the desktop. With the crimson drivers, every time I alt tab out of the game the backlight is flickering weirdly, seems to be somewhat tied to any movement on the screen, if I move the mouse around or something like that it starts flickering. It still doesn't do it in-game except for in heroes of the storm so I don't know what's going on.

Also, when I first installed the crimson drivers today it was making my system crash quite a bit, after uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers it stopped crashing but the flickering is still there. FWIW this happens in both windows 8.1 and 10, with the same behavior for pre crimson and the crimson drivers. Not sure if I should report this as a bug to AMD or something, it seems to be driver related but maybe it's a problem with my monitor as well. Anyone else here having any problems with freesync at all?

Edit: Downgraded my drivers and the flickering on my desktop went away completely, still happens in game in heroes of the storm though. I'd really like to know if anyone else is having the same problem using freesync, I'm wondering if I should return this monitor but it really seems to be more of a driver issue.

Couple issues noticed

The bugged radar in fallout 4. Fixed this by turning off VSR.

Android Studio doesn't like having two projects open now. Windows freak out and start overlapping. Weird.

I have VSR off and still got the bugged compass, although only at 1920x1080 resolution. All other resolutions work correctly with the compass.

Apparently frame pacing causes big FPS drop in WoT. Starts at about 20 FPS in game, then slowly rises to around 60.

Went ahead and installed this yesterday, haven't run into any issues that I can tell. I did only play Witcher 3 and have a 7970 so I don't know if the driver had any improvements for GCN 1.0. I didn't realize that AMD added a frame rate target cap which was pretty neat to use. My monitor is only 60hz so I can set that cap to 60 and hopefully use a bit less video card than I need to maintain 60 fps in some less demanding games.

I'm not surprised. That engine sucks. It's as bad as Gamebryo. The devs will take their sweet time fixing the problem too.

What the hell? I can't install it. Every time it stops responding during install.

Edit: just had to wait for it to unfreeze. Took a long time.

I have got it installed but lost the old CCC panel even when I click on "Try Advanced Setup" on display section, so finding it hard to check my pixel format, saturation settings etc...

Seems streamlined but a lot of stuff missing unless I've a bad install, you guys still got the old CCC panel?

I VSR up to 1920x1200 so I guess that's something. My Monitor is still lame so was 1680x1050 without vsr

Anyone getting the CNext.exe error at restart/shutdown?

Yes I get the same error, seems like a memory fault error. I rolled back to the previous 15.11 drivers for now, the flickering on my desktop during gaming was too annoying since I alt tab out a lot and like to leave games open in the background.

I had to Disable my anti virus to get it to install, otherwise it would stop at 2%.

Just curious how many people install programs, drivers, etc.. with A/V running? I always disconnect from the internet and disable A/V. You're just asking for buggy installs if you don't.

Never had issue installing drivers with Avast AV, anyway I removed the Crimson drivers in the end, had no CCC slim via Crimson panel, display, advanced settings("advanced settings" on mine had "try advanced setup" which did not help much),Anandtech's review states it is there http://www.anandtech.com/show/9811/amd-crimson-driver-overview/4 .
I had a weird Fallout 4 issue with Crimson drivers ie the picture was zooming in and out high speed while trying to put it on the wall(update: found out happens if you have the ceiling fan light and move picture near it).

Anyway I went back to 15.11 beta ones.

Update: I installed over the top this time and the AMD Crimson drivers are now working fine including CCC slim panel, figure that one out .

It's odd, I've never had an issue before at all. I'm guessing since the drivers and installer have changed so significantly that the A/V didn't recognize it. Installed honestly in a few seconds once I disabled the A/V, the install was faster than the Catalyst ones typically were.

Anybody having fan speed issues? Almost cooked my R9 280 playing GTA V, the overdrive profile keeps setting to manual fan control, I had to download Trixx to get the fans to work properly.
