Is this game good for the story/cutscenes/etc? I got a PS3 recently and this is one I had bookmarked a while back.

As long as the combat and other such isn't so bad that I can't suffer through it to make it to the next cutscene, I'm just wondering about story quality.

It's been quite some time since I played it, and I'm old, so my memory isn't what it used to be.

I remember the game as being sort of the opposite of your expectations. The gameplay itself was rather decent, but the story being rather lacking. Using Chopin's last moments, and his music, to base an rpg around was an interesting concept, I just don't remember them actually doing a particularly good job of it.

Well, perhaps I'm misremembering it, and someone will come along and correct me.

If you want story and animation in JRPG form on PS3, Ni no Kuni! Best RPG in almost a decade (Eg this whole generation). See also Tales of Graces F and upcoming Tales of Xillia.

If you REALLY want in game cut scenes and a story telling experiences, PS2 Xenosaga series is unmatched. Xenosaga II for example has over 9 hours of cut scenes with spoken dialogue, and all three games are direct continuations. Probably the deepest RPG in recent history.

See sig for Xenosaga .

I actually enjoyed Eternal Sonata a lot. Fund combat system, and the story was entertaining, if a little depressing...I also loved the art in the game. I own an xbox360, or i'd have bought ni no kuni already.

I own all 3 of these, and have only ever finished the first one. I absolutely loved the first one. The 2nd one turned me off because they changed the character voice of KOSMOS. I've tried playing through it 2 different times and still haven't finished it. I haven't even started 3. Ugh, I need to go back and finish them. They were very under appreciated.

I couldn't understand the combat system, there were pretty much no pointers, and I sold the game at a $20 loss as about 2 hours after I bought it

Good game I beat it on the 360. I also recommend Lost Odyssey if you own one.

The story is pretty bad, and the voice acting is atrocious.

The combat system is fun only because you can play co-op with a friend.

It's an OK game if you don't mind really long cutscenes. I played it for about 10 hours than quit, the game just wasn't interesting enough for me (although I found the graphics to be beautiful).

I played it on Xbox and thoroughly enjoyed it. It definitely has all the JRPG elements to it. I wish it had a japanese audio track since the English voices were pretty obnoxious. Not sure if PS3 has that feature or not.

Gameplay wise, it's pretty linear, but the battle system is pretty fun. It mixes both turn based and real-time combat. Each character gets a turn to fight and during that time, you can do combos and chains, etc. Graphics are pretty good, very anime style-ish and bright/vibrant colors.

Since the game has been out for awhile now, you can probably pick it up for $25 or less which IMO is well worth it. I think the PS3 also has more characters and content than the XBox version.

If you are a fan of JRPGs, you should also try out Tales of Graces F and Tales of Xillia (coming out later this year or next). Also as another poster mentioned, Ni No Kuni is a must play (I have it coming in the mail and will prob sink 100+ hrs into it).

Graphics were very good, but it was too easy and I stopped playing after 5 hours.

I've heard the characters are very feminine, even the male characters. Is this true? Ni No Kuni is already pushing me quite abit on characters that I can't stand. Is this game worse?

Sadly, that's kinda par for the course for many JRPGs, especially more recent ones.

Ni no Kuni is awesome if you accept the characters and stop expecting every game character to be Master Chief or Marcus Fenix.

This is pretty much how all JRPG's are.

IMO Eternal Sonata is even worse than a lot of JRPGs, and the voice acting doesn't help.

This is what I heard.

And I actually do like Ni No Kuni, I'm just saying that if the game wasn't as fun and if the characters were more childish/feminine then I don't think I would be able to stand it.

The characters are annoying at times, but overall the game is still fun. Again, a bit linear, but the graphics are superb and the fighting system is pretty decent.

It's not as great as the Tales series, but still a fun game nonetheless.
