Ethereum wallet 0.8.7 is really syncing slow. Is there something wrong on my end that I should be aware of?

guys what do you think about the huge drop in eth prices?

Other than causing me to temporarily decommission my R9 290 rig (my least power-efficient/greatest heat-producing miner), I am still mining. I think now is a good time to be accumulating (either via mining or via dollar-cost averaged purchases) if you think ETH has a bright future.

Ethereum is working well now except for some of the bigger pools not setting proper GAS pricing. AFAIK a hardcoded GAS price isn't part of Parity (but is in GETH) and some people are still manually setting GAS to 0 (this used to be profitable in previous versions I guess). Anyway this is mostly a minor issue and nothing fork worthy IMHO. Ethereum (knock on wood) is working well at the moment.

As for the price, who knows! The price surely doesn't reflect the utility or potential of Ethereum. The price seems to be artificially low and it looks like bottom will happen when the BTC mega bulls let it hit bottom. As long as Ethereum continues gaining adoption and strong developers like Vitalik, Gavin etc. are making progress I'm holding with the outlook of it going up in value long term.

This is dating me a little but I still recall when BTC had its first big rally and it went all the way up to $34!, and dropped shortly after to around $4.00. That's when I started mining and selling coins for $4.50 each and making a small profit.

There's that saying: “The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.”

Bought another 2xx ETH. Would take me almost three months with no difficulty increase to mine that.

As I speak people are shorting the hell out of ETH. There may be a nasty squeeze on some of those folks soon. Might be a fun time to buy! I'm kind of on the fence about it though.

That's a good way for people to lose their shirts. Did I mention I enjoy squeezing shorters?

Apparently the reason for the shorting was that someone hacked a whale who was holding a lot of ETH and REP (at the very least). So that's why it went down below $7.

It's already above $7 now due to people buying it up at such a low price. So yeah, good job shorters! Shyah, right.

I feel one day that move will look like genius. Personally I am hoping to just mine 2xx ETH total before it is not worth doing anymore. I am loving the low price because it is keeping parallel to a falling ZEC (which I am actually mining and selling like crazy).

Nice buy. I grabbed 100 Eth and some XMR early this morning. Price trending in the right direction now.

thats about when i got in too. $30??? holy cow! sold a bunch and smiled.

eth seems like it can carve a place out for itself. i mine zec/eth and sell but i am trying to hold a minimum amount of eth for long term.

I was just happy back then to pay for my video card with mining. Used to mine a few coins a day... Oh how times have changed

I've slowly been adding XMR to my portfolio but I'm still 95% Eth for altcoins.

Hah, yeah I started BTC mining in 2011...can't tell you how many coins I've mined and sold for pittance lol.
Back then I was getting about 0.5BTC per DAY with 2x6950s. Good times!! It was just so exciting that my video cards were making money, that I didn't think long term at all so sold as I made

Yeah, don't think about such things. I (temporarily) mostly got out of BTC after Pirate imploded and the price plunged and rebounded a bit to $12 or $13 or so, which was nice as it paid off the remaining $20k on my Acadia. I won't bore you with the math on that, but in retrospect it wasn't a great decision.

All in though, it's been a fun ride. Eth has been good, though not nearly as much so as BTC. I'm not profiting much now, though with -30 mornings the heat in my garage is invaluable; but I'm still up a bit in cash position and have a bunch of GPUs that I assume I will sell at some point. I'll probably see mining until spring regardless of what happens market-wise, and then start shutting off and liquidating unless something else interesting comes along.

Almost all of my BIOSes are modded, and my cards did work with the latest driver, though the ReLive driver is kind of buggy/non-performant in several areas. Not worth it really.

I had a problem with one of my rigs using the newest driver. The rig has two 390s, a 470, and a 480. The drivers worked fine for the Polaris cards, but it was locking the Hawaii cards' memory at 150 MHz instead of the default 1500 MHz and all options to adjust it were unresponsive/grayed out both in Wattman and Afterburner. Tried updating Afterburner, ran DDU and did a full driver install from scratch, but no dice. Those 390s would only mine at around 6 MH/s running that driver. I reverted a couple drivers back and they're mining normally again. Both are MSI G1 Gaming 390 cards.

So my RX 480 is consistently at about 79-80 degrees Celsius while mining. Is this going to kill my card if left running for weeks at a time? Thanks.
