i've been having issues with the monitor sometimes not receiving signal after being turned off for a while. i discovered that turning it off and then back on again usually fixed it (the computer wasn't hung, i could still remote into it). i thought it was maybe the displayport on the monitor going bad.

over thanksgiving something happened and the computer crashed. restarted it, started mining, came back a few minutes later to the fans at 100% and the computer not-responsive. cycled the power and nothing came up. no bios screen or anything. swapped to hdmi, still didn't come on. remoted in and it was stuck at 800x600 instead of 4k like usual.

so, out went one hawaii and in went another (thought the second was faulty so it's been laying around a while). still no signal. thought maybe i'd try swapping pci-e slots, but poked around on the internet and saw that some people had no signal due to power issues. swapped from one set of pci-e cables to another, and a different port on the power supply, and walla, signal.

however, now its mining at 12 mh/s instead of ~28. still pulling down ~200 watts from the wall to do so. clocks look right in the amd control panel. obv, i'm not about to spend 200 watts for 12 mh/s.

i've got a new power supply on the way already (seasonic focus plus), any thoughts as to other steps i might take?

Get into safe mode and run Display Driver Uninstaller, remove all related video card drivers and start over. Add in one card at a time. Ensure your primary display device is set correctly in the BIOS. Pick up an HDMI dummy plug if you don't already have one and plug it into your primary card.

what does the dummy plug do? i've got a monitor connected by displayport.

I am so glad newegg doesn't let you return video cards like Amazon does. Means I won't get a mining card that was returned.

AFAIK you don't need dummy plugs for Geforce cards, just Radeons. They act a display and can give you up to 4K resolution when remoting in with things like Team Viewer. I find they're more reliable than relying on a powered off monitor hooked up to your primary card (not sure the exact reason for this, just my experience).

hasn't been an issue before. it's not the remoting in that i'm worried about. it's the 12 mh/s when mining and whether i'm burning up cards.

I had a similar issue with the low hash rates on one of my 6x480 rigs. Reinstalling the drivers helped. I also set all voltages, fan speeds in Claymore's batch file instead of using MSI Afterburner.

If PoW doesn't go away mining will naturally move towards free or almost free electricity sources which I don't have access to.

Based on the lack of difficulty increases recently, I think we'll stay profitable until Ethereum moves to PoS, whenever that is.

With Vega I was talking about ROI. I still consider about the "what if" scenario if Cryptocurrency in general tanks. Of course after ROI is made Vega is much better.

My setup runs on the system in my sig. 3 RX 470 cards. It's my main system as well, with the HD 630 iGPU running the display output. I play older games on the iGPU while the cards are mining away.

I had hash rate problems on my rig, and it couldn't be fixed no matter what, no doubt complicated by my setup. It disappeared and everything worked perfectly when the system was formatted and everything reinstalled. Nothing, I mean *nothing* is better than fresh system install, not even DDU.

I'll note that my nicehash earnings have actually been increasing in kind.

I'd almost forgotten what 'rising tide raises all boats' actually feels like, been stuck with USD for too long I suppose.

Full speed ahead, I say!

My 4th Vega arrived today Went to buy another one and was life WTFBBQ! (shot up another $200 in a week). At these prices I was thinking of building a dedicated Geforce rig for ZEC mining. Anyone know how the new 1070 Ti's work compared to the regular 1070's? Are 1080's still garbage or are there new algorithms that make them profitable? Are 1080 Ti's still good miners but not worth the price unless doubled as a gaming card?

I've got a 1080 in my primary gaming rig that's mostly fine, it's probably not as worth it to actually buy though for pure mining, I got it for gaming and just kicked off my mining adventures on it (using nicehash). Got 5x 1080ti's as well crunching in my basement, mostly went with those because I had a 20amp circuit to play with and needed density (only one circuit down there to play with, and too much heat for the rest of the home). Those are doing quite well too, but the efficiency and cost per card are probably not in favor of it, if you have the option of going all vega's or all 580's or something.

The other factor for my decision was also resale, there's going to be a glut of cards at some point, and the 1080ti's will carry their value at least a little bit better than the $80 480/580's when everything collapses

Thanks. The 1080's are relatively cheap and still game very well. Probably good resale value as well.

I think that's just profit taking, could easily rebound in a week or a month. Although I do wonder where it's going to end up in the end.

I expect there were a lot of sell orders at $500. No idea where it'll wind up but FFG on the testnet + uRaiden going live = major scaling wins for Ethereum.

I can't believe I'm saying this because I'm very conservative with investments and business... BTC is going to hit 20k in 2018 and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens by late summer. I wouldn't be surprised to see 1k ETH before POS hits and another 2x or more run up in price around the time it goes live. 2k ETH... yeah, I'm serious, as insane as that sounds. HODL.

Do I think the fundamental utility of ETH or BTC in 2018 or early 2019 warrants those prices, absolutely not, but there is HUGE institutional money coming in and dumb money from every corner of the globe. The Japanese, Koreans and Chinese are pumping crypto like crazy because they have nowhere else to put it. Americans are becoming more and more aware and interested and who doesn't love a get rich quite scheme.

I don't know when the crypto train ends, but as much as those of us who have been in the game awhile feel like we're towards then end of the bubble cycle, I really think we're not even to the middle... get ready for a crazy roller-coaster!

Ethereum has proven its clearly the platform of choice for developers.

Micro Raiden just launched on schedule and 2018 looks like it'll be a huge year for Dapps. I'm more excited than ever about the future of Ethereum and really looking forward to a working hybrid proof of stake, working Plasma, functional state channels, sharding and ZKSnark functionality for secure anonymous transactions.

While there are plenty of other interesting Blockchain technologies, Ethereum really has serious momentum going for it. More than half of all Blockchain transactions are done on the public Ethereum network. That's crazy as we don't even have real scaling in place yet.

HODL indeed.

Got impatient and ended up buying another Liquid Cooled Vega 64. Reference Vega's seem to be drying up and I don't want those ugly ass aftermarket cards I see coming out. My main gaming rig will double as an XMR beast - Dual V64 LC, Corsair H105 + Red Corsair ML120 fans for the R7-1700X, 64 GB Samsung B-Die RAM, 512GB Samsung NVME Pro drive, 1TB SSD, 3TB HDD, 850W EVGA P2 and a Phantek Enthoo Evolv Gunmetal Grey case. I recently added a 34" UWS Samsung CF791 + Alienware 240Hz to cover casual and competitive gaming. Sure it's more practical to stick with older cheaper cards but I wanted to treat myself ;D. Now I just need to figure out the best way to wall mount these monitors. If I end up doing anything with ML perhaps I'll grab a thread ripper but for now 8 cores, 16 threads seems plenty.

So... The Cryptokitties game brought the entire etherium network to its knees.

That is severely disappointing. I'm at a loss for words...

Edit : oh it's only about 15-20% of Blockchain capacity... Still.. Can't have to many of these games going around.
