If it helps anyone, at stock speeds I had throttling with three of them in a full tower case and the fans on max. At 950mhz & 900mV they run <70* C with the fans at full speed. I'm guessing AMD missed design targets on frequency and voltage a bit again and had to pump them up higher (same exact mistake as the 290x). Drop them a bit and they are happy campers.

Do you recall what the stock voltage on these was?

Can you do a test to see if the hashrate is lower if the card is near 90C by lowering the fan speed until the card start throttling?

Man, the out of spec PCI power and throttling are giving me buyers remorse and the card hasn't even shipped yet.

You have to understand, these cards are right next to each other in a not big enough case in a hot rack at a datacenter. I couldn't run my 3x 390s in there successfully, this is a win on my side.

1131mV at 1265mhz. Default curve:

If it goes below 950mhz while throttling the hashrate starts to drop.

Yowza. That's 75% power consumption just from reducing clockspeeds. Then even more from undervolting.

I wouldn't be surprised if those are <100W @ 25MH/s at 950MHz/900mV

Good points and thanks for the ongoing feeedback, very helpful.

1265Mhz @ 1131mv compared to 950mhz & 900mV should provide significant power savings and mitigates fears about long term PCIe out of spec load amperage. As long as extended gaming sessions don't pose a problem this is of no concern really.

25Mh isn't a bad target speed but we really need power measurement results (compared to stock) to determine how much savings this is.

Sounds about right. So compared to the Fury Nano, pretty close for efficiency but for much less money

I think something is funky with the memory adjustments/voltages. Increasing the speed even 25mhz on the VRAM takes me from <70* C to > 80* C and bouncing off of throttling (again... 3x cards directly next to each other).

Send me a kill-a-watt or equivalent and I'd be happy to measure for you .

Probably just auto adjusting to pre-defined memory ramps like Hawaii.

Wow, looks like NewEgg had a busy day. I don't see any 480's left in stock and it took them 3 hours to clear my PayPal payment! (usually under 15 minutes).

GPU-Z estimates 79W if that's of any interest of anyone.

Any way to monitor the ramps?

Edit: Yep, if I lock them at 1v and raise speeds it isn't an as big of an issue. Definitely ramping up.

I'm not sure how accurate GPU-Z is but that sounds promising. You could probably figure out the memory ramps by adjusting the memory a few Mhz at a time until you see a noticeable change in Mh speeds or fan speed. I think a BIOS editor would be the ideal way to find out though.

That's something for The Stilt to look at maybe

Edit:

Looking over the reddit response from AMD employee, GPU-Z is probably just reading the ASIC wattage so we need to add approximately 40W to your 79W which would make it 119W (but it's probably a lot less board power as there's a relationship between how much ASIC load vs how much the VRM's have to deal with).

So given this info probably closer to 105 - 110W @ 25Mh but I'm hoping it's less. A lot of guess work here though. Need at least a Killawatt to check.

Yeah, it's kind of a pain. My BTC payment cleared in seconds (thanks BTC!) but it looks like I still missed the cutoff. The US site was reporting that anything after 10am today would ship Monday while the Canadian site said 3pm yesterday, but I was hopeful since these are shipping from the US. Mine's still in packaging though, so I'm guessing I won't see it until the end of next week.

I mean I didn't expect it to arrive this week due to Canada Day but yeah we're in the same situation it looks like. No shipping confirmation either. If it *ships* on Tuesday from the US as it stated on the product page (ships from US) as orders won't go out on Monday because that's the 4th of July. So Tuesday the earliest. Let's hope they're shipping from New Jersey and not California (if your in Ontario) else we may not even get them next week.

Yeah this is ridiculous. I ordered mine as soon as it was live, got the paypal payment confirmation at 9:30AM and it's still in packaging. It does say it will be shipping from NJ though.

They stated they will resume shipping on 7/1. Chances are any cards in limbo will go out Friday and/or Saturday, for a Tuesday/Wednesday (assuming 3-day or faster shipping) delivery.

I ordered at 7:37AM Pacific and I have Premier so I got free rush order/3-day shipping. Mine has shipped.

Edit: Ouch, apparently not true for Newegg CA

Yeah, Canadians aren't that lucky.

Any other questions before I lock these puppies away and let them mine?

You're just mining using Claymore on Windows, correct? Any particular pool you prefer? I need to get my mining rack set back up while my cards are in transit so I'll probably use my R9 290 to test in the meantime

Interesting, thanks for the info. So next week is looking good still, phew!

I'm also a Premiere member (aren't we all? ) but my order still shows as in "packaging". My order went in at around 12:30 eastern, so roughly 3 hours after you. I'll update the thread if it ships before Monday.

What is max voltage you can set? Tried different tools?

Looks like 1150mV. No.

Yes, claymore on Windows. I'm on ethermine since the fees were lowest when I was getting everything setup. I think there's one or two small pools that are "cheaper" now.

Hey, when you get your cards can you pop the top off and get the part number on the GDDR5 chips? It's interesting that the Sapphire one is the only available 4GB version listed anywhere yet.

Sure, I could do that. Might slap my old Gelid cooler on it while I'm at it if it fits. For science, of course.
