But they give voltage control in their new utility for the first time. there is a big warranty void warning you have to accept when using wattman for the first time so I don't think that would be it.

Interesting, so core voltage is no longer tied to memory voltage? But they gimped memory overclocking...

Yeah I'll wait until they fix this. I like the idea of Wattman but it feels very beta still.

I have not installed the latest 16.7.3 - I just mean with RX480 they put in voltage control in their own utility for the first time.

Reading RX 480 Sapphire reviews.

4GB: Uses 7GHz Hynix memory. Overclocks in the 7.4-7.8GHz range

This means at best, hash rates will be almost a non overclocked 8GB version with 8GHz memory. Considering how much extra you pay for the 8GB AIB one, reference cards are the way to go.

Also looking at Samsung 4GB alternatives, the reviews of the card based on the memory(for example GTX 960) shows that its an extremely poor overclockers. 7.1-7.2GHz.

7.2GHz would end up at 22MH/s.

that is really bad I can get 27mh on a reference.

but I shoot for 24.5-25.5 as I seem to get best watts per mh.

My best rig is a four card biostar z170 I can do 585-595 watts for whole system and get 99-101mh with four reference 8gb sapphires

After blowing my weak ass psu within the 1st day of owning this card, (replaced with a better 1) I have now had it mining 24/7 for the last 3 days at around 26-27Mhs, drops to low 20`s when also gaming.

Virgin miner who is very pleased to be getting money back.

Oh, reference PowerColor 8Gb,

Core to 1050mV, -10% freq

Memory 2220, 985mV

Fan usually ~1600rpm, reasonably quiet to me

Noob question alert. am I ok to stay with using my main "Account" as opposed to "Contract Wallet" for now? only feature I crave at the moment is to see incoming transactions, but I can see the payout history on ethermine; also it costs more to send/receive using contract wallets as opposed to accounts?

https://klmoney.wordpress.com/beta7-contract-wallets/

http://ethereum.stackexchange.com/q...fference-between-accounts-and-wallets-in-mist

I'm wondering the same thing. I have an "account" and not a "wallet". Am I still vulnerable to this replay attack?

So far as I know, any account or contract wallet is potentially vulnerable to replay attacks so long as it was created before the hard fork.

I think the only major difference between an account and a wallet contract is that a wallet contract is as simple smart contract wrapped around an account:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/41wj26/ethereum_wallet_vs_account_whats_the_difference/

BTW: Windows 10 14393 (latest fast ring) is pushing out automatic updates to AMD drivers, which is something it hasn't done in months. On the plus side, the current driver (listed as 20.19.0.32837 and dated at 7/21/2016) seems to work very well with Genoil's Ethminer. No loss in performance on my 290 or 390.

Thanks. I'll make a new account then.

Yeah make a post hard fork wallet and move funds safely. Just note you need to do it "safely" using a proper split contract. I haven't found a good straight forward guide on how to do this yet without having an exchange involved. If anyone knows of a guide please share.

However for anyone who wants to dump ETC safely I followed this guide and was able to get a Bitcoin back

So in Ethereum wallet with the hard fork chain set, creating a new account and transferring the balance from the old account is not sufficient?

Apparently if you don't use a safe contract you're still at some risk of losing your ether (when sending pre to post fork). So it's not recommended to to directly send between wallets.

Vitalek created a smart contract to stop the ability of hacker from being able to steal your coins. This contract code is what MyEtherWallet is using AFAIK.

The easiest way is to send your pre and post fork ether to an exchange that supports splitting (Poloniex, Kracken etc.) ensuring the ether is all coming from the same wallet. The exchange will perform the safe split for you and may even give you back ETC in the process (however I recommend sending ETC directly to an exchange first using the MyEtherWallet method to ensure you get your ETC. I've tested this method and it works great). You can then then withdraw the safe split ether to a *newly created post fork* wallet and then call it a day.

However if you don't have membership to one of these supported exchanges (or you simply don't want to risk sending large sums of ether) the safest way to secure pre-fork ether requires a bunch of convoluted steps.

I haven't found a decent guide for the non exchage procedure like the one I linked to in my last response for easily sending ETC. Hence the request. I'll keep digging for one.

But if the transaction is successfully executed and the balance is already transferred from the pre-fork account to the post-fork account, can the balance on the new post-fork account still be stolen? Is the risk at the time of transaction or post transaction as well? :hmm:

I don't want to deal with the exchange. Why is it so hard to transfer the balance from my right hand to left hand.

I don't know yet. We'll get this sorted and I agree - very frustrating. I imagine you'll want to repeat the process with the contract in place if you've already sent the ether. Just with another new post fork wallet. Don't try this though without getting advice from someone much more educated on this.

The only bonus of this whole orde is the free ETC - which depending on when you started mining, could be a decent chunk of money

I used this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/4uo5iz/the_nobrains_trick_to_separate_your_eth_and_etc/

Looks like it worked for me. My Eth balance was higher than my ETC balance so it was relatively easy. Apparently if you transfer from the account that has the higher balance (be it ETC or ETH), the transaction cannot be replayed maliciously IF you use an account that YOU control (I read something to this effect on several sites so I went with it).

I made a new account on the main Eth fork, then sent all my Eth at once to that address. And you should empty the "other" account as well so I have sent my ETC to kraken where I hope to get a bit of Eth out of it.

I suppose I'll find out in the next couple of days whether it worked lol. I'm going to keep an eye out on this new account to make sure my balance is correct.

You do need two versions of the chain data though. I had to resync the chain in another folder with the unforked chain to send my ETC.

EDIT: Well, I was able to sell my ETC on Kraken. Everything looks okay so far with my Eth balance.

Nice. I have two of those XFX Black Edition cards coming next week sometime (probably Friday). Overpriced but the backplate could come in handy jammed in side by side for a miner. You should be good with your RM1000 provided you keep the the voltages in check. Yes please remove any unnecessary HDD's and underclock your CPU, RAM, and disable any third party controllers in the BIOS (Firewire, extra USB 3.0, Sound, SATA controllers). This will save you additional watts.

How about 1 more for a total of 5x 480 + 1x 290x, that might be pushing it eh?
Wonder if system processes & background tray icons play any role in power savings. The new w10 is pretty much as clean as can be but my main rig's got a lot of background stuff that starts up when logging in.
BTW, spotted a deal on a used i5-3450, should be better when gaming than the i3-2120.

Also note you're a little unbalanced with your 290 GPU/Memory speed ratio. You need to watch the GPU memory usage while mining (for some reason you have this monitoring disabled?). Anyways, at 1030Mhz core you shouldn't need to set your memory any higher than 1125Mhz. This will lower your wattage a little more. The goal is to get your memory usage to roughly 95% but watch your hashing output to ensure you're not negatively impacting performance. Hynix memory works a little different than Elpedia etc.
I haven't been able to lower the memory on my 290x for some time now, and likely it's a BIOS issue that I have to look into. And didn't know I needed to monitor memory usage - looks like memory controller load is ~85% so I'll need to lower the speed like you said. Hawaii Bios Reader tells me my MEM frequency tables are all set to 1250! I'll have to look into reflashing my 290x BIOS...

I use a standard account and mine shows up on gastracker, so it's possible that you did not have any coins mined before the fork.

edit:

Wow, someone is trying to build enough hash power to 51 percent attack ETC. Interesting. The .25% payout is lower than nanopool so I'm half-tempted to mine there before the attack is attempted. Unfortunately, if they build enough hashpower, they could 51% attack ETH as well.

Definitely had coins mined (and transferred to my account) before block 1920000, according to Ethermine. Strange...

They will never build enough hash power, not with this suicide goal of killing both ETC/ETH.

Finally manage to split the ETH and ETC balance into fresh account manually.

Thanks for the heads up. We really need third party tools like Afterburner. Wattman is a pain in the rear

I wouldn't bother with the 16.7.3. drivers. I had to back out of them.
for the two systems i have that are running 480s and 290x, got a 5-7 % increase, but then my systems become unstable after 1-3 hours. I had to babysit them. I backed out the drivers and went back to 16.7.2.

The one system that i have 280X in, there was no increase in performance and the system became unstable... whereas before under the 16.7.2 drivers, the system was stable for a week straight.

I'm using nicehash miner.

i've been out of gpu mining for over a year and just started to get back into it recently.

I'm running w10 on these systems
