Ghost Recon Phantoms is a f2p, oldish and i don`t think too demanding. This morning tried CS:GO and had problems and CoD Ghosts would not load, just locked up, both these without miner active.
I have just done a complete wipe and Windows 10 re-install because of these problems, hopefully has cured it.

Make sure to turn off your miner before changing any Radeon settings

As a bonus, the Wemo also monitors and logs power usage, and can even mail you daily/weekly/monthly reports, however I'm not 100% convinced the app is recording usage accurately (yet).

Does anyone else know an Internet-enabled device that is like the Wemo Insight, i.e. can remotely power on socket, and log/monitor energy usage?
I've been using D-Link DSP-W215 smart plugs. As long as the wi-fi is stable where the rig is set up (I keep my modem and router connected to a UPS), these things are nice for quickly checking on the total power consumption coming through the plug and turning the power on and off remotely. It also lets you monitor the total power consumed in your monthly billing cycle and put in your power cost to show the actual cost of the power consumed. There are other features like being able to schedule when it turns on and off, and temperature monitoring so it automatically powers down if the power socket overheats (you can define the power off temp). I've found it to be quite handy with a rig that likes to crash from time to time when I'm not around.

The blockchain is downloading, but very slowly. I'm on 1741064. I don't know how many are left. Will it hurt the download to ctrl-c geth and restart it? It's been going for over a day now.

Noob here so I might be wrong but it sounds if you are doing what i did 1st time, solo mining.
Suklee pointed me in the right direction

"Quote" ^^ I tried these instructions at first too but I believe that is for solo mining.

What you want to do is download a miner like Claymore's (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1433925.0), pick a pool (I use ethermine.org), and then set up a .bat file to run to start mining.

Edit: try following this guide https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/guides/how-to-connect-to-an-ethereum-mining-pool/
Got me going straight away.
Thanks suklee.

Seems like I have a problem with setting 3 card mining rig.
I have asus M5a97 R2 mobo and tried running 2x480 from pciex16 slots and r9 290 from pcie x1 using x1 to x16 powered riser.

There was only one of the two x1 slots available, because slot #1 was covered with rx 480 in the upper x16 slot:

Sadly, it didn't see the card in pci x1 #2.
Tested risers and they work when plugged to PCIex16

I couldn't find a single setting for PCIe in the bios.
Any ideas how to make it work?

Everything is in a PC case, so it is damn hard to manipulate. I think milk-crate is inevitable...

Got me a 4GB 470 and a 4GB 460 to mine with. No one is doing much with a 460 so I hope that is fun. The 470 is because I could never find another "4GB" reference 480.

And XFX replaced my 390x that was broken. I might wait until it gets colder to mine with that again, 32 hash for 380w isn't the best ratio.

Going by this guide:
http://www.coinminingrigs.com/budget-mining-rig/
I should be able to run 4 GPUs.
Is there a difference if I plug a GPU directly to x16 slot instead using x1 to x16 powered riser? Can this be an issue?

Why don't you undervolt/underclock it?

I am gonna try to play with that some with the new 390x, but the old one really couldn't stand an undervolt.

Plus the real problem is this is my primary gaming rig so the CPU/platform is wasteful OCed 2600k. Every other mining system I have has some sort of weak CPU.

Ah well, it will be cold before I know it and then that rig will be a nice space heater.

Very welcome Pete, glad I could help

You sure there isn't an option in the BIOS for PCIe lane speed? Something like Gen1/Gen2 , 16/0/0 or something similar?

I have the same issue with my main rig, since it's in a desktop tower the video cards are placed messily by the side. I'm building a small GPU-only frame to try to tidy this up...

PS. Has any one experienced their card mining stuck at approx 4.225 Mh/s? I've seen it on different rigs, sometimes after a reboot the problem will go away (or resurface). Bad riser?

I get that without using risers. Driver bug I guess.

After my complete Os re-install everything works as it should, no crashes now. Must of been some conflicting programs, mines and games just at a slower rate ~24Mhs.

Just had thoughts it was the graphics card bugging out.

Thanks again.

I've noticed my SSD has been slowly filling up, turns out I have about 88GB of Ethereum related folders in appdata. One is Ethash at ~52GB and the other is Etherchain at ~35GB. Is this something I'm stuck with or can I delete those folders safely? Failing that can they be easily moved somewhere else? Had no idea that much data was being generated from mining.

Use another miner like Claymore if you don't want to deal with the Ethash folder. But if you want to keep using ethminer, you can safely delete all the the files in that folder, though keep the most recent 2 or 3 to avoid the hassle of ethminer recreating them.

the ethash files are old dag files. shut the miner down, delete them, fire the miner up. it will make the new dag files it currently needs.

new dag files are created every so many days, and older ones are no longer needed. some miners dont keep em on the drive, they keep em in the vc memory

My 6x rigs run in the mid 70's on average. I wrote a guide a few pages back but I need to update the section on throttling. A friend of mine and myself have been plugging away at the throttling issue for a few weeks now. I think we finally have it solved but it has more to do with supplying the right amount of VDDC. These Polaris cards are very sensitive to VDDC changes. Just been busy lately so haven't had time. I'll update the section explaining this in more detail hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

I know you're probably pretty busy Madpacket, but any info on what you and your friend have discovered with the throttling issue would be very useful for the forum.

OK, I think I got it up and running. I'm using Claymore and it's saying i'm getting between 16-16.5 Mh/s. I put ethpool.org as the pool and my wallet key as the ewal var, so I guess I'm mining now. GPU usage is pegged at 100%.

I'm using Ethereum Wallet latest version 0.8.2.

Once the GPU finds something, will it be reflected in my wallet in real-time, or do I have to quit and restart the wallet or something?

Usually the payout will be after 1 Eth has been mined, or whatever you set for payout. You can check your balance on ethpool.org and watch the dashboard.

It should show how many shares are submitted and accepted by you, as well as your balance.

Ok, I think I figured out how to read it. I actually switched to ethermine because it seems to be a better pool for low hashers and has an easier to read stats page (shows Eth vs Credits).

One more question, I am gonna be picking up another cheap 280x next month, would it be a good idea to buy a new modern CPU/Motherboard, or would it be alright to use a Gigabyte k8n-pro-sli board?
