guys need some advice, im making a 2nd rig, and im new to this bios modding stuff, so im looking for a card with dual bios, according to what i had read here the 470 nitro and 480 nitro are both good options right?

I can find the 470 4 gb nitro for 217$ and the 480 4 gb nitro for 229$ which should i choose?

It's a bit of a wash. Both cards will mine around the same speeds as they have the same Hynix RAM. Depending on ASIC quality one card could use more energy than the other. 470 is cheaper but for the minor price difference I would probably opt for the 480 for resale value purposes. Of course an 8GB 470 Nitro uses Samsung memory which will get you better speeds so if it's close in price maybe grab that instead.

Asic quality isn't reported on this board (gigabyte windforce oc). I've tried the other gigabyte utility and afterburner (new beta afterburner supports TDP reduction on a bigger range than the old one).

Clock control works in afterburner but -400 MHz is -400 from 1900. The card hits its voltage cap either way, leaving it using under 40% of its TDP when mining. At 3 mh/s.

Strange that two cards from the same brand seem very different in control-ability.

On top of that it was glitching playing wolfenstein last night. I suppose that may be the reason it was open box to begin with.

Looks like you may have a lemon. It sucks but happens. I tried checking ASIC rating of my card but Wizzard hasn't added support for the Pascal series yet.

Yes this is still ongoing AFAIK. More info about the fix being worked on below. You know Ethereum is doing something right with the amount of sabotage being attempted.

https://blog.ethereum.org/2016/09/22/transaction-spam-attack-next-steps/

Thought it was DDoS but I wasn't sure. Looks like they're working on a fix, which is good.

DDoS is serious business. You know it's getting bad when Akamai has to back down from defending a security researcher due to sustained DDoS on their networks.

I wish that AMD had a decent enthusiast card out right now. Mining on my 1070 blows compared to my 480 boxes. It really makes the machine unusable while mining in comparison to the 480's where you can still watch video, surf the net, etc. That being said, yes the power efficiency of the 1070 is nice.

Sapphire Fury Nitro OC..

Underclocks like a champ and performs on average around 30% faster than a 480. Sure the 1070 is faster but the Fury isn't that far off in newer games. Goes on sale for under $300 USD periodically. Mines at a good 30Mh too!

It's a good card to hold over until Vega. I'm keeping my Fury X's for the same reason.

Sapphire Fury Nitro OC is a beast of a card. You can OC to better than Fury X performance, or you can undervolt to achieve 390X performance at 120-140W. All while maintaining quiet operation.

The only downside is it is 12"+ long, so it requires a big case (not a problem for me)

one should not assume windows anniversary update has been installed on one's PC just because it's been 2 months.

forcing the anniversary update and doing some minor ram overclocking got the 1070 up to the 29-30 range. but the fan still chatters and there was the glitching thing.

Not sure if this is allowed but csn I sell 3 ETH here? Thinking about selling it for $25 PayPal?

I'm getting out of mining. I was going to install my 470 and 480 at work to get free power lol and get a 1070 for gaming at home, but decided to keep my 470 for gaming and it isn't worth for me to mine just one card at work. Going to return the 480 instead.

Uh, guess you would need to try the FS/FT forum, though I'm not sure cryptocurrency is allowed to be sold there. This thread would not be the proper place.

edit: you can do better on one of the exchanges anyway . . .

there was a minor improvement for 10x0 nvidia cards (3%) that was for windows 10. that was in 6.4, something about building with cuda 8.

im on amd r9 3x0 on win 7 and ubuntu so cant vouch for it.

So where are most of you pool mining these days?
I've been mining with Alpereum the last few months, with ethermine set as my failover, specifically because Alpereum has a strong stance of not supporting so-called "ethereum classic" (or as I call it, etcetera). Alpereum has a fairly low hashrate so my daily production is variable, but over time it evens out and anytime there is extended downtime they compensate miners for what they would have made and then some, even if it isn't their fault. Like the geth memory leak that crashed most of the network a couple weeks back: they took each miner's average hashrate over the 10 hours prior to the downtime, calculated the expected payout during the period of downtime plus any associated instability in the pool at either end of it, and paid out everyone 125% of their estimate.

Edit: Forgot to mention, Alpereum also has 0% fees. That's a nice bonus.

Blame the 480 and the recent price bumps. It's only going to get worse. Everyone's going to push for what they can get before it goes PoS. The handwriting is on the wall . . . it's just a matter of time.

i wonder if folks with power hungry r9 3x0s (such as myself) will shut down out as profitability drops to negative income. if they dont replace them with 4x0s or 10x0s the difficulty may not rise as fast as it is now,

im hoping to hold out till pos hits before i have to drop out.
