My 290s at 900 MHz are still generating 25 MH/s so I don't know why one would be down in the 16-17 MH/s range.
Same, my Hawaiis have been very consistent as the DAG grows while my Tahitis have seen continued slow declines.

I just got a XFX Radeon GTR RX 480 the other day and it seems to be a little more efficient then my other 480s.
I didn't try to see how low I could get it yet, I just plugged numbers in wattman that I knew it would run on ( core at 910mv, memory at 920mv ) .
In GPUZ its using 57/58W.

Neat. That seems abnormally low for those voltages. Using GPU-Z for measurement? What's the ASIC rating of the card? Have you modified the memory straps yet or used a mining BIOS? What are your core/mem speeds set to? How cool is it running?
How fast is it hashing? Do you get any GPU memory errors in HWInfo64?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to determine the rest of the parameters.

Yeah that is using GPU-Z, and that is using stock BIOS. The ASIC is 74.8.
I have the core speed at 1080, and memory at 2200 and it is hashing at 27mhs.
The temp is holding steady at 59.
I'll up load a pic tonight after work if I can figure out how to do that.

Rumor has it that the process may have matured a bit, or XFX just got a batch of better chips - seen several reports of 1475MHz+ OCs on 1.15V, and significantly less power draw (20-30W less) at stock speeds. The XFX RS cards I recently purchased hover right around 64W in GPU-Z while mining, so either I got lucky or there's some truth to the rumor (but what the ultimate reason is is still speculation)

Also: Screw this difficulty increase.

Yeah I seem those reports too, So i have tried mine out.
I didn't fiddle with it to much, but at 1175mv the best I could get it to ruin at was 1400.

Interesting. Thanks for the responses. My reference cards run in the high 60's or low 70's with a modified BIOS (29.2Mh). My guess for XFX cards would be that it also has a more efficient VRM setup but either way that's pretty awesome.

Too bad the difficulty is where it's at or I would pick up a pair to test out.

Most likely the block chain? It would be nice to tell it to store it to a different drive though.

You can do that with the "-datadir" flag in your batch file to open geth. That's what I do, I have the block sync to my regular HDD, instead of my SSD OS drive since I don't want so many writes to it.

Here is a picture of XFX Radeon GTR RX 480 core set at 880mv and memory set at 890mv and it is using
55w in GPU-Z.

Nice. Is GPU-z reading power usage correctly there? I know it reads it correctly for my old 270, but not any of my 290s or 390s.

No. This is just a core usage. You need to add about 40 watts for memory.

Yeah, I understand, I was pointing out that it was only drawing 55w in GPU-Z. Which is almost 20w less than the other 480s that I have.

I added in another 480, set it to the same settings and it is drawing 74/75w, the same wattage it was drawing on the other mobo.
So that means that my GPU-Z is reading it correctly.

Is the 40W for memory a constant (for, say, 4GB) or does it matter what the clocks on the memory are? (Trying to estimate power draw)

These numbers though... Do GPUs have Core steppings and the like in the same way that CPUs do? Perhaps there's a way to confirm those mature process rumors.

Looks like xfx did some magic, or it is for realzies new revision. Care to share xfx bios?

Okay, so geth.exe is behaving itself a little better now. I wiped out my entire chaindata subdir and redownloaded the chain structure/blockchain via Ethereum Wallet/geth and now it's only taking up 12.4 GB of space, down from 62+ GB. Still a bit crazy but it seems to have stabilized somewhat.

Hard fork I believe gets implemented today.

Yep, it already happened. About 6 hours ago according to twitter

"Ethereum EIP-150 hardfork executed successfully. We are now targeting a temporary gas limit of 4M. Unconfirmed txs will be re-sent soon."

^which geth version are you using?

1.4.17, though I am about to upgrade to 1.4.18

Okay, so we need to switch to the new blockchain just like the last hard fork, correct? Won't this uh . . . create an orphan blockchain with duplicated ETH just like before?

So I am also redownloading the block chain but mine is at 50% and it's 20GB already...how the heck is yours only 12GB?

Not sure. Mine's up to 16.5 GB now. Did you delete the entire contents of your chaindata directory?

What program are you downloading it with? Geth, or Mist Wallet, or did you open both?

I think if you have both open they both will down load the blockchain separately.
