I'm using Win 10, Crimson 16.6 driver. Was using Genoil and was getting ~20Sol/s on each of my 290s but that miner kept crashing so I'm using the Nicehash miner (which I think is nhqeminer) which is much more stable, but a bit slower I think.

I can't even get genoil's miner to work in Win10. Nicehash works but it zeroes out, forcing a reboot. Have you had either problem?

You know, we should probably make a separate Zcash/ZEC thread.

and in fact, I did. It's just a placeholder for now.

Nicehash is stable for me, but slower than genoil by a bit. Genoil would crash after about 10mins each time so I stopped using it.

That's easy enough to moderate out (ban poster/remove post). The main problem are people like uh . . . well let's not mention any names, but imagine someone making seemingly-informed posts actually acting as a shill for their own position or to defend the position of someone paying them.

Now imagine a forum where 80+% of the posters are all like that. Straight-up shills. What fun.

Yeah that'll be the bitcointalk forum lol.

edit: I'm getting this thing with nheqminer where it will say:

read_until: End of File

then it reconnects to the stratum server and the Sols/s starts a steady decline, all the way to 0 Sols/s. I have no idea why it's doing that. Anyone else using nheqminer?

I've had this problem with genoil's ethminer intermittently. I havent had the time to go and find out what is wrong, so I switched to claymore instead. Not certain if it was the internet connection (which is sometimes unstable for me) or what.

That's exactly the reason why.

It seems a whole TH/s worth of miners have moved, because the hashrate dropped below 6k GH/s earlier today...

Even the latest Genoil 0.4 crashes immediately right on launch on many of my perfectly working ethereum miners. I did get it running on one machine and can confirm 0.4 seems a lot faster/more stable than prior versions. I'll let that run for a few days to see if I can earn anything to my T address.

Anyone else running into the crash on launch issue with Genoil?

DO NOT USE THE WINDOWS ZCASH WALLET!! Apparently it's a trojan and can empty wallets.

I read this on the zcash forum:
"turns out it was processors with no AVX"
"Needs to be a AVX cpu. (i3, i5, i7) (high end amd) no celeron cpu will work for now."
"Well hold on it gets more confusing. You ARE running the GPU miner, but it requires a modern CPU to mine with the GPU. Doesnt make sense, but it's a bug in the miner, not your fault. We are waiting for GENOIL to fix the issue."

So, it turns out the CPU in the system makes a difference whether you can mine or not?

Ahh that make sense now. All of the miners that are insta-crashing have Sempron's or Celeron's in them.

I am loving this zcash thing if only because it knocked 25% off the difficulty in 4 days.

I probably won't mess with it myself as whattomine.com says it's about 30% more profitable the ETH but I got ETH mining down so I fear I could lose more than 30% with some crash that happens while I am at work. But we all benefit from more options in the market.

Originally I had plans to stop mining around February and that was counting on a 15-25% cut from 2GB cards going out in December. Add on the zcash drop and I might hold on until right up until POS.

Has anyone tried Shakepay?I stumbled on it yesterday but I haven't tried it yet. Looks like it uses NFC from your Android phone to pay. Accepted everywhere VISA is....

Mind you it is still in Beta and only available in North and South America

So, I have my Sapphire Fury Nitro up and mining along with a 290 Tri X in the same rig. It gets around 30 MH/s at stock, so slightly better than my 290s were. My question, what makes the most difference in tweaking the Fury? Unlocking, core OC or HBM OC? Curious in results in both gaming and mining. I am totally new to the tweaking of Fiji cards and HBM in general, any tips or pointers appreciated.

How does mining generate wealth? While mining does gpu do some work which is beneficial to some organization which in turn pays money?

For the Fury Nitro try the following assuming you have two of them.

"genoil.exe -c us1-zcash.flypool.org:3333 -u <address>.<name> -p z -i 20 -w 64 -P 0 -g 0 1 -k zec zec"

Experiment between 2 and 4 zec flags. Depends on your CPU though. The above works well on a 5930K where I get between 30 and 40 Sol/s per card.

Edit:

Sorry the above is assuming you're mining ZEC. If mining Ether the default flags in Claymore 7.2 wok fine. As for overclocking don't bother with HBM (at least mining ether). I set my HBM speeds to 333Mhz to reduce power and it has no speed deficit. I set my clock speeds to 1100 mhz at -75mv. These settings for my Nitro+ OC's this give me around 32Mh per card and essentially put me on par with my MSI Gaming X 480's (performance per watt). I haven't experimented overclocking with ZEC yet on the Fury's. Will do later tonight if I have time.

Do some googling about Bitcoin and you'll find the answers. In this sense, Eth isn't all that different.

right now my 2 rigs (4x470) makes around 1.4 eth daily, how are the profits on zec?

At little higher. This site is a great guide:

https://whattomine.com/

I will say though that ZEC prices are dropping like a rock, so by next week I expect everyone is mining ETH again. Right now you are enjoying lower ETH difficulty because of ZEC mining that will go away when ZEC is less profitable. So any ZEC advantage is short lived, and anyone mining ETH today still benefits from ZEC. It comes down to how hard it is for you to change your machines over and how much downtime that will cause.

470s mine ETH about as good as ZEC unless you have a fast CPU (then ZEC wins a little).

Only downside to mining ETH right now is that ETH is also in decline for whatever reason. Can't really sort out why but it is. Might be due to XMR draining value from the rest of the altcoin market.

I think it's largely because the second hard fork to deal with spam attacks has been delayed with no new date set yet. They're now supposed to announce the date/block number sometime this week.
