So not strictly Eth-related, but one of the last couple updates either to NV drivers or nicehash bumped up my speeds by a fair margin. Currently getting 495 Sol/s from my primary rig (1080gtx and 960gtx), and 239 Sol/s from my secondary rig (970gtx). I'm guessing the 1080 is hovering somewhere around 300-350, 960 somewhere around 150-195. This is with Nicehash 1.7.5.5 running Equishash algo. All in all, nicehash is clocking me now at around $170USD/mo which is a stark difference from the $30-$40 I was seeing a week or two ago. Maybe it's due to Eth prices rising?

If I'm just looking to mine Ethereum (not Decred) on my R9 290, what's the best mining program to use these days? I'm currently using Claymore but if I can save some power and ditch mining Decred I might.

So I'm assuming equihash is mining alt currencies (like now-profitable ETH) then converting to BTC for me? Sorry, still new to this. That icon is still basically a magical money-making machine to me.

Does Gigabit Ethernet give any benefits for mining? Will it reduce latency for say 10 rigs... 30 rigs... 50 rigs?

It could given a large enough farm. I haven't noticed any difference with connection quality/latency using various goofy wifi NICs on my small number of mining rigs (which results in highly variant bandwidth/latency between the rigs).

I think my Ethereum wallet was hacked. Lost an entire month of mining.

Please could I help the forumites here for help?

I see a payout that happened on the 26th of March that I didn't authorize. That means hacked right?

So frustrated! Just over 1 ETH gone.

How can I prevent this? What did I do wrong?

EDIT: Or is it an automatic payout into the wallet on my PC?

If you are using Ethermine, it automatically sends at a threshold of 1 ETH to the address you configured in your miner. Are you talking about Ethermine, or an actual wallet?

Hopefully the former, and hopefully it sent to your wallet...

The default settings on ethermine are to automatically pay out your earnings to the wallet you specify when you launch the miner once your earnings reach 1 ether. It sounds like that's what happened. Check the wallet and see. If so, congrats on your first ether.

Yeah, that is also what the pool said. Had a little heart attack there!

In about another month, I'll get my electricity bill, and then I can work out what my profit is.

What miner do you use, if I may ask?

I just installed the mist software to create my Ether wallet, and I've a single RX 480 so I'm hoping for some basic payouts. I'm seeing Claymore & Gecoil as being recommened by Nanopool (the pool I am thinking of joining)

Any tips to a first-time miner? Should I link up my Ethereum wallet with Paypal ? Thanks in advance for the tips !

Vish

Well not bad. I pieced together a mining computer a few months back via used parts from eBay and a brand new RX 480 that was on sale. My total investment in the rig is about $360. Since January the rig has already generated an equivalent of $180 so i'm half way to paying off the rig and only about 90 days in.

I use claymore miner, mining both ethereum and decred. I use different pools for each - dwarfpool for ethereum and decredpool for decred.

So far, its going well. I get about 24Mh/s per second in ethereum, which I think is not bad for my GPU considering it is a 4GB GPU. Plus I use the latest drivers. A lot of people recommend 15.12 - in practice I find it isn't worth bothering with such an old version.

In total, I think I've made about $70 worth since I started mining, which was on about March the 4th or something this year. Next month, I'll get my electricity bill and then I can work out what my profit is. But I expect it to be decent.

Joining the group as suggested ! I kicked off my single-RX 480 rig last night using Genoil Miner. I'm using Novapool. I've so many questions

1) How do I check my balance ? Is it something like this - https://etherscan.io/address/0xCC692B01DDbCF961996487FbA6ACBae8F207b375

2) Since my hashrate is about 22-23 Mh/s I'm guessing I'll not see any balance in the above account until I accrue 0.1 Eth (Novapool's default?)

3) I'm in the process of diving into a 3 rig-system I'm building. Are there any suggestions or recommendations (circa march 2017) regarding Win10 vs Linux vs EthOS ? Claymore vs Genoil ?

Thank you a ton for all the warmth and help with this - I appreciate your guidance. Thanks!

Vishnu

guys im building a new rig, i have 3 with this mobo from gigabyte, running just fine, but this one im having problems, only 3 of the 5 cards get detected at the same time, i tested every gpu and every riser, one by one, and everything works fine, the problem is when i connect the 4th and/or 5th gpu, any advice?

I read somewhere about shorting the pci express slot?

I'm no expert, but I came across a few recurring suggestions to this problem on various groups :-

1) Ensure 1 GPU (call it master GPU) is in the main PCIE x16 slot, and rest are via risers
2) Ensure the BIOS sets all other PCIe slots (X1, X4, X8) to x1 speeds
3) Check the BIOS to see if there's an option to choose # of PCIe slots active; Sometimes you need to make a change to allow it to see more than 3 devices via PCIe

Again, I'm just throwing out ideas. I also know the Operating System matters a lot too! Can you share what OS you are using?

Altcoin Mining experts - please correct me if I'm wrong.

Vishnu

Ok - I think I've 'stumbled upon' the answer to my question - I was looking at the wrong pool lol

https://eth.nanopool.org/account/0xcc692b01ddbcf961996487fba6acbae8f207b375

It shows I've an average hashrate of 24.5 Mh/s and a current balance of 0.022 ETH ......

I still have the question around how I can transfer this to say, my PAYPAL account. I know I dont have enough ETH to do a transfer (min is 0.1) but I'd like to know how. Thanks again!

Vish

Can you share the motherboard details? I'll try dig into the manual and see if there's something you need to enable in the BIOS.

Jose - Unfortunately the above doesnt help nail down the motherboard - Do you have a product code/product name?

For example, if I search on Google, I get multiple motherboard versions..... https://www.google.com/search?client=opera&q=Gigabyte+AM3++AMD+970&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Do you have a particular product code? I think if you just look around in your BIOS (when you boot up the PC, likely press "DEL" key or something to get into BIOS) and see if there's any setting related to the PCIe slots.

EDIT : I think I might have found your product page ; Does this look like your motherboard? (given its age, being an older model) - http://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-970A-D3-rev-10-11#sp

EDIT2 : Link to BIOS Manual http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-970a-d3_e.pdf

You need to go through an exchange, like poloniex.com or kraken.com . You basically need to sell your eth for $. You can then transfer it from your exchange account to a bank account. Be aware of transfer fees though, especially through your bank. Some banks can charge $20+ for wire transfers. I don't know about paypal.

Alternatively, you can sell your eth for btc and then use something like gyft.com to buy gift cards to retail stores using btc. I've done this a few times and it works great. I've also heard of bitcoin ATM's but have never really looked into them.
