I got a batch of them off Amazon ages ago, I think. Let me see . . .

Get something close to this. You might find better prices elsewhere. Sometimes you have to get them shipped from HK/China which can take awhile. eBay may have some deals on them in NA.

Get them elsewhere. I had lots of problems with those adapters, and ended up tossing about 1/3 of them out. If you can plan ahead, HK/China is the way to go as you can get them much cheaper per unit.

What are your card settings?

+600 on memory, -225 on core, pwr limit 55%. It's an MSI Gaming X. If it's sitting unused it pulls ~ 29.9MH/s, if I'm using it 26-27. I will say this, my AMD cards are much more responsive and nicer to use while mining than this 1070 but the 1070 is hands down the better gaming card and is way more efficient, especially considering that's without a custom bios and without playing with voltage. In general I've really liked my 480's though, they have done well so far, hopefully they last...

Bad batch?

I have 6 or 7 from MintCell (purchased on ebay, Newegg, and Amazon, separated by a few years) and they all work fine.

Quite possibly! I'll keep that in mind if I ever need any more.

The adapters can be hit and miss. I've purchased around 100 of them in total from various places (not all for me). Most work just fine but I had a few batches where around half of them were unreliable or simply DOA. It happens so it's good to order a few extra just in case.

What brand of memory? My Micron based Gigabyte ITX 1070 can hit around 30Mh but I have it dialed down to keep heat and power at bay, roughly 27 - 28Mh. Although not a huge gap, the 1070's outperform 480's in performance per watt mining straight up Ether, not sure about dual mining or other currencies though.

So general question. Are people still mining straight up Ether or have you switched again to ZEC due to difficulty?

I'm still mining ETH... never bothered switching and it appears that was the better decision as long as one HODL'd the coins. Whether that remains true or not remains anyone's guess, however.

I've been going back and forth from ETH to ZEC and also split half and half at one point...now I'm mining at around 250 Mh ETH and the rest is mining via nicehash( ~ $30 USD per day) for Bitcoin.

Thanks for the responses. FWIW I'm still mining straight Etherb as well.

Have you started selling? or are you still holding?

I've diversified a little.

Some of the other coins I'm holding are:

LTC
PIVX
XEM (NEM)
StorJ
Brust
XRP (ripple)
DASH
Monero
Doge (to the moon)
Eth Classic
Steem
Pascal

But 80% of my portfolio value is ETH

1. Any opinions of ethermine vs ethpool? I've read anyone with over 1Gh should use Ethpool?

I have one address with 1Gh and another with 3Gh - should I move to Ethpool? Should I combine the hashing power - will I get better results? (don't know how I would track the contribution of shares though from each owner)

2. BIOS: some RX470s I was able to edit with no problems using Polaris bios editor, but other cards have strange looking values under Timing. Are these hex coded or something? I tried using the same procedure (copying the value field) but bricked one of the VBIOSes.

I upgraded to Claymore's eth miner 9.3 last night - holy cow!

Decred mining rate doubled. This admittedly might have more to do with Decred's algorithm change than Claymore's awesomeness, but it is still impressive to see.

Ethereum calculated hashrate (as reported by DwarfPool) is around 35Mh/s. Sent/reported hashrate remains at 24 Mh/s. Very very impressive.

And I recently managed to undervolt my card, so I'm hoping this will decrease power consumption.

question about server psu... Guys im planning on building a 7 gpu rig, ive reading about servers psu, so far ive found that with 1 1200 watts server psu + 600w normal gpu i should use without problems all 7 cards, the normal psu should feed the risers, and the server psu should feed the amps needed by the gpus right?

Or should i use 2 normal 750 watts psu?

It's probably cheaper and easier to use two regular PSUs. Just get one of those ATX splitters so you can turn them both on easily without having to use the paperclip method.

Plus, if you do any sort of PC building normally, it's nice to have ATX PSUs around after you are done mining.

Well i found a 750watts atx psu for mobo/risers/hard drive at 60$ + 80$ for a 1200 watts platinum server supply, isnt a bad deal, and gold/platinum atx psu are more expensive

Ran out of graphics cards to complete my Ryzen 1600 build. Thanks to Newegg's 5% off mobile code, a MIR, and a free game bundle, I ordered another RX 480.

I haven't tried the Asus Strix RX 480 yet, so we'll see how it does. Naturally, I will stress test the build with mining

so maybe at the end of the year?

It's still muddy from what I can tell, but it sounds like Vitalik's staged rollout plan could be implemented relatively quickly, so maybe it would come before the end of the year. Real mining won't abruptly end, at any rate, we'll at least have a heads up once it's formally hashed out (no pun intended).

I'm a little disappointed that they aren't going whole hog with it, but hey, whatever. ETH is picking up a lot of steam price-wise even without PoS.
