I don't know for sure either, but I can't see any large scale manufacturer booking their production under 3-6 months in advance including assembly. With maybe possible room for Hot Rush projects.

I think TSMC and GF are pretty flexible, when they have capacity. A foundry should be able to increase the wafer output pretty fast and then you have 10 weeks for the other assembly lines to prepare which also should be possible, as long as you don't want to scale up to totally different levels. But coming from low production in Q1, it should be easy possible to increase that to the production numbers needed for christmas, because the capacities are there anyway. So the limiting factor should be the wafer production. As for Nvidia with tsmc it shouldn't be a problem, because tsmc isn't running in full 16nm capacity as players like apple moved on to 10nm. Amd with globalfoundries might be worse, cause gf is also fully ramping everything of ryzen and it might not be possible to get more wafers for polaris. But wasn't Polaris also produced at Samsung? If so, then it also shouldn't be a problem for amd to increase production.

I think my follow up to this would be... is TSMC actually letting lines sit idle, or are they performing concurrent upgrades? In other words, as the demand for one node wanes, they can upgrade the unused lines to a newer node or even the next node. Intel sort of does this; however, in Intel's case, they actually keep lines around for longer, because older processes work fine for chips like the motherboard's PCH.

I think they let it idle. Only after longer time, when customers don't want it anymore they'll might upgrade it. But normally most of their new nodes are new foundries/additions. Like at 28nm their wafer output nowadays is bigger than at the time when gpus have been produced. They have so many other industries which produce in really old nodes and only change very slowly and they even now are introducing new nodes which are based on the 28nm tools. Same will happen with 16nm, as the 12nm nodes use the same tools just with process refinements.

So, is it too late for us to release Anandtechcoin? We could give it out for upvoted posts. Maybe the No Lifers would horde it as a status symbol.

I'm in, never too late! Small coins are where the big profits are at!

Anyone mining with Crimson 17.7 or 17.6?
My hashrate goes from ~29mhs to 4mhs with my 290 when trying to use those drivers. I'm getting 29mhs with the 16.11 driver.

I'm mining on 17.7.1 with a 390 and my hashrate is about the same as always. Not using a 290 with it though.

AMD drivers are not that good. Nvidia is far better.

Just reinstall the drivers. Clean it up using DDU before doing so. It's likely Radeon Settings at fault. If all else fails, format and reinstall. I am a miner and fiddled around a LOT.

I did do a DDU before installing the new drivers.
The clocks appear to be correct with the new drivers, but the hashrate is not good.

AMD drivers do that. I've experienced the same. The same Polaris chip at the same VBIOS settings I was getting anywhere from 24-28MH/s. Zero difference in visible clocks though. The cleaner the installation the easier I was able to get the higher hash rates and stable settings.

At 4MH/s I assume the real clocks are being stuck at lowest power state, which for Polaris its 300MHz. I've seen that too. I am not sure about the 290 but its probably at the same frequency.

Other reason is that the GPU isn't being recognized properly. Maybe due to conflict with VBIOS checks and workarounds not working properly. Maybe its due to thermals.

It would be cool to have Anandtechcoin. We can use this for tipping in this forum just for fun. Same thing happened to dogecoin where is was used for tipping in some reddit sections.

So, how do we start one? Back in the day, it was as easy as taking Litecoin's codebase and changing some variables. I'm not sure what coin you would clone now if you were going to start at square one.

I installed 17.7.2 lastnight and got a 2-5% bump in speeds in claymore, but i lost any ability to over/under clock/voltage in afterburner. i can still adjust fan speeds though. I'm running stock bios. i haven't tried reinstalling after burner yet. running windows 10 also. this was with my 580/570 cards. my 480/470 cards seem to be slightly less gain.

Do the latest drivers do a BIOS check? I have my 290s flashed to 390x cards and I'm guessing they have different timings.

Could that be the problem?

You tried Sapphire TRIXX yet? I can't get the Wattman settings to work on my 390, but TRIXX will work. Mostly. I have to reset the computer after applying settings etc.

My guess is no, though I haven't tried running my 390 with a hacked BIOS yet under these drivers to confirm. I have it on stock BIOS for the time being.

Apparently the BIOS check is only for Polaris cards, so you're right.
Hmm...wonder what the issue is then.

EDIT: Did some more googling...apparently the new driver doesn't work well with Afterburner so that might be what is causing the issue. Will need to do some actual testing when I get home.

EDIT2: This time I tried 17.7.2 (was trying 17.7.1 before) and mining worked as normal...BUT...Afterburner did not work properly, so I had to go back to 16.11.

Anyone been paying attention to the Bitcoin Cash announcement?

Is this a good idea?:
Exchange all altcoins for BTC before the fork so that you get BTC and BCC after the fork. That way you may be getting more value from what you already hold?

But you won't be doubling the coins you have, looks like you'll choose one and the other will cancel itself out when you send/spend it. Judging by the beating some Alt coins are getting, a lot of people are probably doing this, might be a tad late to sell off now.

Although it should be a wild trading time for a few weeks as all this gets sorted out. Fortunes will be made & lost no doubt.

^Yeah, I guess you'll only make money if BTC is relatively steady and BCC increases. I'm guessing it's unlikely that BTC will increase in value due to this...in fact I'm guessing it will probably lose some value.

Any good coins guys? I've been mining Skunk lately, it's been three to four times the profit of Ethereum. I'm not sure if it can be sustained. Today it's down to double the profits of Ethereum. If you guys know of any better coins I'm all ears. You should check out the NethosMiner if you're running nVidia hardware.

Don't know honestly... One or the other may spike up, only to be beaten down like crazy as people sell-off again to buy dirt cheap alt coins.

But that's just my hypothesis.
