Yes, yes, I know I should quit and all that. I won't now though, because I have 4 more classes to go on my Master's and since I am full-time staff they are but $75 a piece. (More BS, if I were to take a class in an actual physical room with a real teacher it would be free, but since my classes are only offered in an online format I have to pony up the $75 a class for "IT costs"). So once those are done all bets are off.

For now though, I would really really like to either:

1) Get paid over $20k a year

2) Get someone who doesn't deserve their job fired!

Yes I only need 4 more classes after this semester, but the department I am in is really small and they only offer like 1 graduate course per semester and none in the summer. I can get an independent study here and there, but its looking like it will be impossible to graduate before Spring 2009.

I have another pseudo boss, the lady hired for $35k a year to run the ITV classes. However, she refuses to hold an office in the actual building where the classrooms and servers are and is so incompetent her boobs probably have a higher IQ. I have fixed her "work" so many times she won't even talk to me anymore. She could use to be shown the door, but she has too many "friends".

You work for a university full time and aren't granted benefits? Something is not right there. Is it a private university?

I'm gonna say it again and hope it makes some sense, but DON'T BURN BRIDGES. You've spent what, a couple years here? I'm willing to bet that it's your first "professional" job, and outside of this you have ZERO experience. (Again, correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel these are good assumptions) So when you DO start looking for a new job, and they contact this place to find out what kind of work you're capable of, they don't tell the story of how you're sticking your nose where it doesn't belong.

Your job is to work for media services. Your job is NOT to run the company from the bottom of the ladder. Trying to get someone fired because you dislike working conditions is childish. These people might not be the best bosses, but they have lives to live and they don't need some brat trying to get them a ticket to the unemployment line. I reckon you wouldn't like it if we emailed a link to this thread to every email we can find on your school's website because you wouldn't like US poking our noses in YOUR business, so maybe you shouldn't be doing it to other people, either. How does it sound when the shoe is on the other foot?

So... for your two "requirements"...

1) Your hourly rate equates to about $18k/year. Tack on the fact that you're getting a $4k graduate school education for free and you might as well call it $22k. There you go. More than $20k.

2) This should be simple enough. Walk in to your boss's office and tell them everything you've said here. The end result will be someone who doesn't deserve their job (you) getting fired.

time to put your balls on the block.
tell them you'll quit if you are going to be treated like this and that you will not train your boss.
let them do what they will with that and live with the consequences.
you can get paid that much at starbucks.
they push you around because you are a push over.

Just for perspective, NYU pays much better and has an excellent tuision remission plan.

How many credits are allowed each year?
Tuition Remission eligible employees and their spouses/registered domestic partners are granted nine credits of tuition remission per term (or the equivalent of nine credits for non-credit courses at SCPS), for a total of 27 per academic year

NYU no longer provides salary ranges that apply to all positions in a specific grade level because hiring salaries are based on a number of factors, such as a candidate's background and experience as well as the budget allocated for a position. Candidates should provide their salary requirements in their cover letter.

The pay is good for living in/around NYC, which obviously puts it well above what you are making. Add to that the free education for you and your family, and the many other benefits, and it becomes clear that you can do much better at NYU and many other Universities than at your current location.

the logic is infallible

Best of all, that Masters degree and certifications will probably help you get a near six figure salary if you were willing to move to the Silicon Valley!

Sooner or later most people realize that the primary purpose of their first IT job is gain enough experience to get a BETTER IT job later. I just wish that I would have some to that realization earlier myself!

Students who work in computer labs here get paid $10/hour to play with their swivel chair and look at Facebook.

You need to get the hell out.
