I'm having fun with it, got it on sale and have been playing quite a bit.

Nothing like having enough money to get your own truck, hopping on a freight job without checking the load weight, and pulling 25+tons while going 20kmph on a highway .

Just like a real truck driver.

Suppose I'll check out the demo. Reminds me of an old game we had on the computers at school.

Does this work well with a 360 controller?

Been thinking on it as a laid back game for the PC ... Just not sure. Depends on how cheap I can find it.

Yeah, it supports the 360 controller very nicely. Although unlike many gamepad-enabled games, you still have to use keyboard/mouse in the menus. But for actual gameplay though, yeah, you can hook up a controller and customize it to your liking.

Been playing a little more Euro Truck 2 since the DLC came out and I noticed the game runs a lot more smoothly now. They must've done some optimizations in the last patch. Previously it chugged a bit - particularly in cities - but now it's really slick. I'm very pleased with this.

It works great on a 360 controller. I'm using a Razer Onza and it's much less fatiguing than mouse+keyboard, although that works well too.

You can get it on GMG for $9.75 using one of their 25% vouchers they run all time time. That's pretty cheap.

Yeah...thanks. Might bite on that.

I run TSM and I know they just updated the mod to work with the DLC. Hopefully my chances are good that my save would be ok.

Anyone else run a good set of mods that work well together? I'm only doing TSM now.

American Truck Simulator is being developed now.

Nice. I'd be interested in that.

I'm already playing Train simulator 2014. Love it. They have a lot of European routes which are really nice. The mix is fine of USA and EU. But I don't want a truck game now with only non USA routes. I'll pick it up when this new one comes out.

Steam sale today.

The business aspect and grinding jobs to buy new trucks doesn't appeal, but it sounds like cruising around the scenery might be fun. Is it possible or is there a mod to easily hop into any vehicle and go for free roaming drives anywhere on the map?

I was surprised to find out that scenery was VERY underwhelming. I was expecting some nice landmarks or famous road sceneries.

I drove through Sweden during my honeymoon (which was BEAUTIFUL).

I drove the similar route in this game. Generic as hell.

Ah well, that's disappointing. I guess it would be tough to do a lot of detail on that scale. Maybe there are some improved scenery addons like those for FSX.

For anyone who has played both, how does cruising the roads compare to something like TDU2 (Test Drive Unlimited 2)?

Someone who has the DLC might chime in but I think that has more detailed scenery.

Latest big patch they did they basically redid how it handles the map so from now on they can add more details without affecting performance.

Also rumor is that American Truck Simulator will be coming out in January. It basically is just California. But you buy it early at a reduced price and are "upgraded" along the way as they add to it.

That's not so bad then. I guess it just doesn't have lots of landmarks or unique buildings for every town. I don't have high expectations and it looks ok on Youtube.

European routes are more interesting to me, though I am looking forward to The Crew.

The scenery in ET2 is nice, but generic.

As for in comparison with TDU2, not similar at all. There is an extensive road network, but you are limited to driving on that network. Something like a TDU2 World would be cool though.

Well, I gave the demo a try. The roads are not bad and I like the traffic environment, but all I want to do is hop out of the truck and into a car to explore. Hauling, making wide turns and backing up a trailer isn't really grabbing me. I may not be cut out for a virtual trucking career.

Does the full game have a replay feature? I didn't see one in the demo and a brief search only turned up requests to add the feature. It would be nice to see the last 30 seconds or a minute from different angles.

You can do auto parking instead of manually parking the trailer, which is difficult at first but gets much easier with practice. You can also do free roam, but I'm not sure if new cities will open up if you're just doing free roaming.

I didn't see the option for that and I don't own a truck, so I was just doing a few of the starter jobs to drive. I figured I should do my own parking to get the full experience. I'll have another look for a free roam mode, but I have the feeling the demo is more than enough trucking for me. I have TDU2 and plenty of racing sims and mods to get my fill of driving until another free roam car driving game appears.

I found this tip for free roaming on the Steam forum:

If you start a quick job, all your expenses (like fuel, repair etc) are paid by your employer. You can even park the trailer you are suppose to deliver somewhere and just drive wherever and as long as you want. If you run out of fuel, just stop at the next gas station, you don't even need to pay.

Well, I played the demo a bit more and decided to pick it up before the sale ended. I started playing with the Euro streaming radio which really adds to the experience and I also turned up the rain to try that out. Then my radio stopped working and I saw the demo was an older build (1.4), so I figured I'd see if the updated full version fixed it. Unfortunately, my radio is still broken, but I can just stream the stations outside of the game. I also wanted to try out the new photo mode which is missing from the demo.

Anyway, I guess it started to win me over and I'm on my way to building a trucking empire now.

Bumping this because I picked up the game + dlc for $12 or so on Steam over the weekend. The game is really a lot of fun. I'm surprised how well the mouse/keyboard steering works once you get used to it. You can look around by pressing the right button, but you have to be very careful or you'll be on the guard rail in no time, or worse.

The game is really polished for an indie title. About the only glitch I have noticed so far is cars occasionally floating a foot or so off the road when they pass me. The engine tone also seems a little off to me. As someone who drove a lot of diesel trucks what my ear is telling me about the rpm and when I should shift is not matching up with what the game is telling me, but that's a minor nit.

I built up about $40k on a starter profile last night, but I will probably restart with a new guy tonight, just because there was so much to learn.
