I picked up a copy for myself and a friend. I have heard good things about it and decided to pick it up. I will give it a try soon. Love me some Steam sales. Too many games and not enough time...

I picked this up as well yesterday as in the daily deal for $6 with the DLC. So far I am liking it. i have modded the live streams to include a couple of the stations I listened to in Germany.

What are some must have mods, otherwise?

I haven't even looked at mods yet. Just learning to drive and get around and make some money . After probably ten or so hours of play I'm still really impressed by the game, and especially the feel of the truck and controls. They did a tremendously good job for an indie team.

Probably the main thing that bugs me is the tight layout of the highways. The lanes are narrow, the curves too sharp, and the way they did most interchanges takes some getting used to. I don't know if it's realistic for Europe or not, but I suspect it mainly had to do with making their routing algorithms simpler. Anyway, it all generally works together really well, and the complaint is very minor.

Mods are hit and miss with this. Problem is SCS is continually patching the game (which is a good thing IMO, because they are quite active on it) but also creates issues with mods. And a lot of them don't play nice with each other. Combine this with dubious means of downloading via having to register with forums it becomes a hassle.

Usually you want to backup your profile or start a fresh one before you do too much.

Take a look at the Pro mods map pack. Fairly well polished.

There is also TSM which greatly expands the map (which I'm currently using) but will try out Pro mods shortly based on what I've seen. Unfortunately they don't coexist with each other.

Realistic physics plays well with both of them AFAIK.

Combine the above with the fact that this is quite a popular game in many countries and you have language barriers to overcome as well.

I know I don't sound like much help, but I've been searching for the holy grail of a combination of mods that work well together and haven't found it yet.

But the next big patch from SCS will supposedly address the AI drivers of the game. That should be interesting.

One more thing, the steam discussion board for the game isn't half bad and has a lot of useful info.

Speaking of the profiles reminds me of another minor annoyance. I decided to bail on my first driver and start another, and found that all my control settings were reset to defaults. I wish they had kept the input options separate from the driver profiles. I don't see much use or benefit in linking them.

I've always like the 18 Wheels of Steel series (and I cut my teeth on Hard Truck), but I think I'll wait for the American Truck Simulator to come out. European trucks just aren't that interesting to me.

I think ETS2 is awesome. But they (SCS software) are working on an ATS (American Truck Simulator).

And speaking of mods here's one I really like . Even comes with Skyrim loads like Mammoth Cheese, Armor, Weapons, Skooma etc.

I saw my brother play this over the holiday, it looked like a good game to relax to. This is the sort of thing I'd like to grab when the Oculus Rift is released.

Can someone recommend a place to go where they've recommendations for how to configure controls for say a 360 controller? This typically works well for me, apart from the current steering setup as it won't let me do a continued wheel turn if I'm going above a few kmph. This is frustrating when you need to pull up a bit then swing in real fast to make a turn, and the wheel only turns about half a rotation.

Does anyone watch DaSquirrelsNuts on YouTube? The ETS2 gameplay videos are very entertaining, especially the "Seventy Tonne Volvo" job, which spans 4 videos, but it's worth the watch.

Oh man, I can't wait for the American one. I played American Long Haul a while ago and it was pretty fun, but the country was way too compacted. Hopefully these guys do it right. I enjoyed ETS2, but Europe's countries are too similar environment wise. The US will have everything from deserts to mountains to swampland.

Totally waiting for the new American one. Kind of have to get it not matter what seeing as I own every thing from the original Hard Truck up . But ETS 2 has been a blast, totally ready to see what they do next.

I'm not sure why, or if softlab even knows, they still host the original hard truck 1 and 2 sites. But it's amazing that they do. 18:WoS (Wheels of steel) is where it got to me, dropping the racing entirely and getting into loads. I miss running through the northern states with my little Rusty truck (Peterbilt 339 is what it looked like). Now I'm going to have to dig them out.

I'm still playing, but I've been fighting a corruption for the last few weeks with the game crashing out, even after reloading windows onto my new SSD. So I'll have to start a new profile and see if it still crashes....not sure what's up. I probably need to try an older autosave on my profile as well.

It has a lot of nice new adds! That with the 1.17 update have made for some excellent gameplay. Sadly I can not see how the new graphics system has enhanced it. My lowly ATI 5850 cannot keep up anymore with max res.
