I just downloaded the demo. I couldn't understand what was so great about this "game". Turns out it's a very detailed business simulator with the bonus of being able to drive through some beautiful roads and towns. Plus the fact that I can play my own music files while driving makes this game a great relaxing experience. Too bad I didn't buy it during the Steam Summer Sale. Anyone else enjoy it? This is the first time I play a simulator game, and I never thought it would be so addicting.

I can see why it's fun:

1. The world is well crafted. You immerse yourself as the trucker going across all the Europe- 50% of the fun is looking at all the highways, scenery, roads, that are modeled after real world.

2. Other 30% is actually driving the truck. Little touches like turn signal, wiper blades, turning on lights, weather effects & night time- those are quite fun.

3. The remaining 20% is the typical RPG element of buying better trucks, customizing it, running own biz, making money, etc.

It's a cool game. I couldn't understand it before either.

Yup, it's definitely one of my favorite sims. I'm a fan of truck-driving/train-driving sims though (basically anything that involves operating large ground vehicles) so I'm a bit biased.

How does the driving work with a mouse and keyboard? Do you need a wheel to enjoy the game?

Keyboard and mouse controls are fine, but a steering wheel almost makes it feel like a whole new game. Definitely use a wheel if you can. Personally when I'm too lazy to hook mine up I just use a gamepad.

It's enjoyable enough, just like everyone playing Gran Turismo on game pad.

On second thought, the best part of ETS 2 is the mouselook of the scenery while driving. How do you do this if you use the wheels?

Good question. You can customize the controls just about any way you want, so if you have a D-pad or a joystick or something like that on your wheel, you can map it to there.

Ideally, you'd be using TrackIR. But not everyone has that.

With that in mind, using a gamepad might be ideal. Right-stick on the 360 pad works great (left stick for steering of course).

It's pretty fun. It took me a bit of tweaking to get it to run smoothly in eyefinity, but now it's a pretty immersive experience stretched across three monitors.

I'm having fun with it, got it on sale and have been playing quite a bit.

Nothing like having enough money to get your own truck, hopping on a freight job without checking the load weight, and pulling 25+tons while going 20kmph on a highway .

I have put 63 hours into it so far, enjoying it. It could use a Mod to make the Economics more accurate, but that's a minor niggle.

hehe, all but the Volvo entry level trucks(<$100k) are underpowered. The Volvo has 500hp, while the others are 320(ish)-to 360(ish). I started with the IVECO entry level at 320hp and it was so bad it stalled out while pulling a trailer from a Mine.(supposedly the last patch has fixed the stalling)

I think I won't be able to enjoy this game until I get a working Occulus Rift version.

For a game about driving trucks it's quite fun. They've really thought the gameplay and presentation through, making it not nearly as boring as it sounds. Graphics are quite good too compared to many of these simulator games.

I played the demo quite a bit this spring. Picked up the full game during the summer sale.

I love ETS2 and have been playing it since release, still do. It is a very well done game and professionally polished. What I like about it is it's different and it also helps that I have a general interest in heavy machinery and transportation.

I like to play games like ETS2 and Farming Simulator when I get tired of the litany of first person shooters or just get tired of being shot at or constant danger around every corner .

Just a heads up there is some Eastern Europe DLC coming in September for the game that adds some additional content:

And SCS does have a forum for the game which for some odd reason is kinda hard to find:

I play with a gamepad and find it less fatiguing overall than the mouse and keyboard even though those input methods are surprisingly well done.

Clear the roads, I am inbound! Have been looking at this game for a while, and at $13.60 with your positive reviews it sounds like a good time to try it. Sitting in front of the computer driving a truck sounds like it is completely boring. Just the type of game I like.

Thanks for the sales bump Arcadio.

Will be grabbing the DLC within a weekish. I am not playing ET2 as much lately, but still do a Job every other day. Will be nice to have some more variety is roads and new cities.

Can you just run through traffic or will cops start chasing you?

While I think the game is great I find the price for the DLC a tad high for what it gives.
