I'll give you an example. In the U.S., i think it's safe to say that no current citizen was a slaveowner. The vast majority probably aren't even descendents of slaveowners, or Southerners, or really even indirectly tied to the slavery legacy in this country. Yet, there is a very real, distinct, and proper sense of shame that it occurred here.

Quite correct. And in Germany there's a sense of shame that it occured there. However, if you're looking for that same sense of Shame in Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland,Spain,Italy,Portugal etc etc etc you won't find it.

Please don't equate Germany with Europe.

The one thing that I know about you is that you're a liar. And I don't respect liars.

Just curious, why do you call him a liar? Do you have proof to point to (concrete proof)?

I'm not biased either way, just curious.

"Francis Robinson, a professor of history at London University, said: 'Whatever anyone feels about Israel, this is absolutely appalling. Certainly there are strong feelings, not often spoken but nevertheless strongly felt, shared by the majority of British liberal intellectuals about the problems with Israel. Nonetheless, this sounds dreadful. It runs counter to the very principles of academic freedom.' " I.e. it wasn't wrong to do this per se, it was just an issue of "academic freedom."
Perhaps you could explain your use of "i.e." and "per se", because my definition/understanding is obviously totally different than yours.

Thanks.

Well, considering that you have the audacity to tell me that you would not act any differently if the professor was from an American university, I think that qualifies you as a liar.

Oh, sorry, I thought you had a concrete example of where he lied before. Just trying to figure out who I agree with more in this arguement.

i.e. = id est = "that is"

per se = in itself, of itself

You're right, I shouldn't use that foreign sh!t. Now what else is there?

Ooooooh-kaay then. It's Latin by the way, technically foreign but the foundation of the language you used in your reply.

Well, it would likely be helpful for some, who by either geography (European in general, since that's who the thread mentions in the title, but preferrably Brits in particular since that's where the incident took place) or POV (those whom support the notion that Israel is an illegitimate or terrorist state), to clearly state their position on this occurrence.

So, fair or not, that means tag, you and Czar are "it." Do you think that national background or POV on a particular political issue are legitimate reasons to use in making personnel decisions such as hiring or firings, be it as an organized "boycott" program or an informal policy?

I'm not really arguing with him per se. I'm just trying to get him to drop the facade. And I have read enough of his posts (hundreds upon hundred of them) to know that he would be enraged if an Israeli or an American college professor dismissed/fired people for the simple reason that they held a passport from a Middle Eastern country.

You've acted very predictably in this thread Czar. As easy to predict as the sunrise.

Yes, then why is Vespasian so surprised that I act so predictable?

Anyone who visits ATOT regularly knows your opinions about Israel and/or America because the overwhelming majority of your posts are about the things that you don't like about the two countries. And considering that you're not an Israeli nor an American, it's quite peculiar that your posts center around that theme.

Sorry for the confusion, i'll try to clarify my question. I've re-read this thread, and the closest i see you coming to stating a definitive position on what happened is this:

No I wouldnt, I would find the decision stupid as with this one but thats all.

Sorry to seem if i'm splitting hairs, but saying a decision is stupid doesn't necessarily mean you disagree with it.... you may agree with the end result of the decision, but simply think that the method in which it was carried out or that the messenger was "stupid," but not the message. I respectfully ask you to state definitively one way or the other whether you support or oppose the notion that a "boycott" of Israel is a legitimate goal. And if you believe that a boycott is legitimate, do you believe that the firing of the two people in question because of their nationality a legitimate method of enforcing that boycott?
