I just started and racked up a total of 5M isk today... and I'd say it's been roughly 6 hours total game time since I started yesterday.

ehh, how?

Doing a bunch of missions in 10m or less each. Some have bonuses > 200K for fast completion. I've got a Tristan with some upgrades and 2x150mm Railguns for some pirate bustin'

Just made some Antimatter S rounds and some afterburners... manufacturing is neat.

Edit: Lulz, another 300K isk for 4m of work.

Heh whoops. Yeah kinda stinks that they limit you to the skills you can train on a trial account. Personally I'm doing a lot of 0.0 warfare at the moment so I tend to be flying larger ships (BSs & capitals).

Me too. Oh well, I will probably buy the game when my trial runs out, but that isn't for another 2 1/2 weeks.

I do understand that a 3 week old character with the perfect training set can do some damage. But that's in the hands of a player that knows the game fairly well or better. A person who has played EVE for 3 weeks will simply not have the know-how nor most likely the proper skill set up to be this supposed "terror" without some seriously heavy coaching from a veteran. I'm definitely not in the noobs can't pick up EVE and go camp.. but if you make it sound like you can start from square 1 and be owning in 3 weeks you're going to discourage a lot of people when they find out that isn't often the case. Can it happen under absolutely ideal situations? Sure. Will it happen for most new players? Absolutely not.

I got your drift. I'm certainly not trying to discourage new players, quite the opposite in fact.

Did you read the guide I posted a link to?

It's simply my contention that if a brand new player reads that guide, follows the instructions in it, and actually goes out and DOES what the quide suggests, that new player will be terrorizing people in as little as 3 weeks, and having fun doing it.

The first week or so will be a crash course in what not to do, but pain is the best teacher.

After the noob gets a feel for what his punisher/rifter/incursus/merlin can do, that noob will be bouncing cruisers left and right. Some coaching from a vet:

For the noobs here that actually read the guide:

The guy who wrote it recommends the tristan for gallente pilots who want to solo pirate. I STAUNCHLY disagree. With my skills I can barely get the tristan past 60 DPS with faction ammo and T2 mods, whereas I can get the incursus past 120 DPS with 2k ehp and a small rep.

Highs:
3x Small Electron Blasters (T2)

Mids:
1MN Afterburner II
Stasis Webifier II
Warp Scrambler II

Lows:
200mm Rolled Tungsten Plate
Small Armor Repairer II

Drone:
Hobgoblin II

That little ship can go nearly 1km/sec, get under people's guns, and then pound most cruisers into the dirt. I call it my mini ishkur. My biggest kill with it to date was an orca, but I've managed to kill a BC or 5 with it when they weren't packing energy destabilizers. Those kills take a long time though, so make sure to pack plenty of ammo on long trips.

That's okay. My original char (semi-retired) has a dozen or so frigates, several destroyers, probably 8 or so cruisers, and 3 battle cruisers. He had at prior 3 battleships, but they were all lost in combat or sold a long time ago. Not only that, but he is also very capable of manufacturing, and happens to own about 70% of the frigate BPO's. He also has a few cruiser BPO's too.

Meh, at about 15H in and about to finish the epic arc quest. I think I'm done. This game is a chore to play and not really much fun. Guess I should pirate some fellow noobies before donating my isk to a worthy foe.

This seems like such a fun game, I just wish I could find something more interesting then missions. I have read a bunch of the guides, I just can't afford to go try PVP and lose, but maybe once I have some cash to burn I can figure it out.

Ok, I think I'm going to re-sub tonight. Is there an AT corporation I should join? Not looking for any handouts, just somewhere social to be

I asked the same thing earlier, no response. I'm looking for the same thing as you.

Yeah, haven't found any ATers to play with, but I suppose I want to be capable of defending myself first

Check out the Corp that Malladine, Sunny, and now myself are in.

T-RET

(t-ret public chat). Corp leader is Reynolds.

I've only been a member for less than a week, but everyone is extremely helpful and courteous. Seems like they frequently do mining and pvp ops, either just as a Corp or with the Alliance we are in.

Yeah, I'll check it out once I am comfortable. I'm a Gallente named Wakaranaiyo in the Luse VII system right now.

Bah, just talk to Rey, really nice guy. Oh and a general newbie tip, from one newbie to antother, get a corp, really, do it ASAP. I started playing EVE like 2-3 years ago, I quit after 2-3 weeks, this time around I joined T-RET pretty much instantly, it made a world of difference. EVE is really really solo and newbie unfriendly.
Oh and Flash, who are you in the corp? I'm Rochefort Trappistes..

Oh and Mall, time to get online a bit, we're at war now

I have to say this game is addicting. Probably the best thing that happened to me was getting killed. (I warped away before I got podded.) I didn't realize how cheap it was to replace my frigate. Plus I have fitted my new frigate much better to coincide with my fighting style.

I am thinking of joining a corporation, but I would like to finish the Epic Arc first. I actually have a lot of fun manufacturing and playing the market. I make more money ratting, but I get more satisfaction making money building and selling parts to other players for some reason.

EDIT: I do have a question though: Do armor panels give penalties when stacked? I remember seeing that many of the other components do, but I am not sure about the armor panels.

Mart, they stack without penalty

I've yet to try manufacturing myself...focusing entirely on combat skills, cept for a bit of scanning stuff

Sunner: almost lost a vexor to "Baron Aaron" earlier, but other T-RET arrived and he fled. He was in a Vagabond, a very fast one. Over 2km/s...with a webber.

My Alliance had a fun and NAWTI day today. There's been an active WH in our space for a little while that we have been watching. We caught the people living in there in the middle of a freighter run. We had 4 BS and a Taranis (tackler) and were attacked by 3 BS (2 x baddon and 1 x Hyperion) with ECM support (Falcon) that eventually brought a carrier out to play. The result, one dead Fernir with almost 4.5B in loot down and 2 BS taken down as well with zero losses. Our BS went after the carrier and forced it to jump out of the wormhole (which collapsed it and many probes later we finally made it out).

Again, if you're looking for a corporation/Alliance to join and want to PvP, look me up in game (Myrdin Potter). Mention that you'e from Anandtech.

Depends on what you're talking about when you say "panels". You talking about things like 100mm Armor Plates? No, they don't. You talking about Armor Hardeners or whatever the other ones that give you resists? Yes, they do.

Another interesting thing to note - anything that gives a percentage based bonus is compounded. For example, cargo expanders. Say you get one with a 20% bonus... fit it and your cargo space is (base * 1.2). Say you fit another one... it's now ((base * 1.2) * 1.2), rather than (base * (1.2 + 1.2)).

How large is your alliance, do you specialize or are you interested in multiple roles, and are you a KZ or Goon pet?

Yeah, I meant armor plates. Thanks.

That is good to know about the bonuses stacking like that. I will have to remember that.

I just get a satisfaction out of purchasing components and building stuff, then selling it at nearly 100% profit; only waiting for production time. Of course, you have to balance supply and demand, or you will end up with product that doesn't sell completely.

Saga - We are not aligned in any way shape or form with 0.0 Alliances. We operate in low sec (Eve Gate area) and only go into 0.0 to get sec status up or for raids (sometimes it is fun to use all the toys). There's a smaller NC Alliance we have a blue status with and that goes way back in time to when they started in low sec and we've had members go back and forth. Most of our PvP is small roaming gangs (10 - 15 max). Generally we have about 50 people people active Euro time and about 30 in USA TZ. Of course, we have many more in the Alliance, but active and doing things on a regular basis is 50/30. We don't have very many blues (on purpose) but we can double to triple in size via friends helping if we run into more than what we can handle.

Other than some people that really like to PvP and only do that, most of the experienced players do multiple things. We can be mining a probed out belt one moment and then into our PvP ships pwning freighters in a worm hole 5 minutes later.

Martimus - We live mainly in low sec and "pirate" (we're really NBSI, not that much into gate camping or ransoming).

Ahh. Bummer. I'm looking for a new home currently but dig small capital engagements more than anything. Absolutely love hotdropping a few carriers for giggles. Low-sec is a bad place to do such a thing.

We have a capital fleet and will hotdrop at times. However, low sec = gate guns = dead fighters if you're not careful.

Precisely. I enjoy outpost 0.0 with a nice true sec -1.0 system I can rat in during the day at work.

Then join one of the 0.0 Alliances. The big ones are about the only ones with -1 sec and outpost stations.
