Wow, that BS got completely ganked. 11 on 1 - sucked to be him.Originally posted by: Martimus
JStorms second kill was a CVA Tempest who thought it was a good idea to take a Battleship out solo in Low Sec.
To my suprise he stayed right there. I pointed him, and started going to work on him, and he went down rather quickly. What was funny is that he had two warp core stabilizers fitted, so he could have warped off at any time.

Maybe afk-mining?

When people talk about how getting Learning to 5 and Adv. learning to 4 for long term playing, I assume they are talking about getting Learning, Analytical Mind, Instant Recall to Rank 5, and Eidetic Memory, and Logic to Rank 4?

So how should you progress in your skills? I have a Vexor again (thanks Martimus!). Just doing Tier II missions. I have most of my learning up (all first tiers to level 5, and most of the expensive ones to level 4). I am doing Drone Interfacing now as it seems I mostly do damage with my drones. Should I improve my gunnery at all (it is a bit lacking... nothing above a level 3 I don't think)? How about my shield/armor/energy/etc skills (all level 3's or below)? Or just try to maximize drones (most of my skill points are here... some level 5's and a lot of level 4's)?
And should I try to be going for a Battlecruiser or just work on getting the best stuff for my Vexor?
Thanks.

I think it depends on how you want to fight. A vexor is a drone boat. I call it the baby Dominix. I decided to go drones and defese as I progressed. I'd send in the drones on my vexor and used tractor beams and salvagers in the highs to clean up the aftermath. My gun skills are pathetically low. Once I am where I feel comfortable in my tanking and drone capability. Ill go back and train up my guns.

Woah, tractor beam? That sounds cool. Currently I go around after the fight and salvage from the wrecks and it takes forever. Particularly because some of the time I'm running while my drones are fighting and everything gets spread out. What is the range on the tractor beam?

20km for the tractor beam and it pulls at 500 meters\sec. And yes it used to take me forever as well. 2x Tractor beams in the highs may be the best 1.8 million I ever spent.

Download Eve-mon, and use that to help determine what skills you want to train. If you go the drones and tank route (which just happened to be the route I took when I started as well), you are going to want to train for Hammerhead II's, and Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II's. Just doing these two things will get most of those skills up to an acceptable level. Also, if you can't fit a Damage Control II, make sure you train the skills for that, as it is often the most important fitting on almost every ship.
Other less important skills to train for the "tank and drones" route are the skills needed for sentry drones (get drone interfacing to L4, and one other drone skill - can't remember which), and get all the armor resistance skills up to level 3 or 4. These are important as you progress, but are less important at the early stages. You will eventually want to train for Ogre II's as well, as they do a great amount of damage, but they take around 40 days to train after you get to Hammerhead II's, so they will probably get pushed back in your priority list.

It'll take a while for you to get there, but the Marauder class ship has a 100% bonus on tractor beam range, so you get up to 40km. That makes life a LOT easier for mission runners. The Orca has a 70km range (though that's a mining support ship).
